The tune is simply a matter of coming up with changes to entice new buyers and to keep up with whatever brand X, Y and Z are doing.

To add further confusion, according to those in the know, the V8S "488hp/495PS/495hp" motor actually uses the XKR-S 510PS software so it would appear that marketing has played with the numbers a bit too.

Cheers,
Dave
Actually not with regard to U.S. models. All V8S cars (14 & 15) have the 495HP tune, and V8R models have the 550HP tune.

It was Cambo that said the V8S software was actually marked 510PS and was the same software used on the 510PS rated XKR-S. Also, the tune was marketed as 495PS which is 488hp but Jaguar NA still used the 495 figure when going from PS to HP despite the fact that the software was identical...both figures are tossed around in various road tests etc.

I know the V8R cars all got the 550PS tune (which should be 542hp)

True, but my point was all U.S. V8S models have the same tune and all U.S. V8R models have the same tune, so badging and tune aren't separate issues for U.S models.

JagBrian -

You have one of the nicest Rs I've ever seen. Hope you are still enjoying it!

A couple months ago I was trying to see what powercoated black Gyrodynes would look like and missed your posts. Just great.

You can add the Motorsport Tech spacers to those with no issues also.

A 2015 Salsa or white R is on my radar as soon as my CTS-V is sold

Is it just me or is the Salsa closer to Ferrari Rosso than IRR?

And on the very last picture, you can swear he has the spacers already in that shot.

Yes, salsa is closer to rosso corsa, though rosso is more orange.

I like Salsa better, more pure red. Is IRR more orange?

Strangely, IRR is even further from rosso. More burgundy to my eye, but still a nice color.

IRR left, Salsa right

Tough lighting; Salsa left, IRR right

Salsa left, IRR right

Great shots for comparison.

I wish we could get the Ferrari back in to see how they all related. Ferrari had to be in mind when naming the color IRR.

It's a testament to British bespokism to even offer two reds. I can't think of another marque that would do this other than an exotic.

I mean I know Mercedes has Mars red which is a fire engine and the next red would be Barolo, which is a metallic burgundyish. To be offered two reds with a subtle nuance difference is really sweet but I bet the least popular of the two will be discontinued, watch and see.

Salsa has already been replaced with Caldera, which is slightly bluer.

Salsa left, Caldera right. Subtle difference.

Beefsteak tomato vs hothouse tomato.

Red is one of the few colors that should be a signature for a marque.

Guards red
Rosso red
Mars red
Victory red
Hotspur red
Imola red

I'm thinking Jag should decide on one red, stick with it for a few decades and offer it throughout the marque. Call the color "Cat's Blood Red" and let it ride right next to BRG in the stable. The red calipers should also change to the standard red. Salsa still appeals to me a bit more than the others but whatever they decide, red seems to be one of the colors that Jag should find a standard for. Blues can come in several shades from a Aston Martin baby to the SVR special edition to say a metallic midnight, but red...? Let's come up with one that works and let it marinate over time.

Think Jags new white. I went to the dealer to see it when it first came out this year and thought to myself...I hope to God they don't replace Polaris with this. The name escapes me but its a frosted ultra white that has no warmth. Looks like pure white paint out of a can without any tint. How long now has Alpine white been the standard for BMW?

A lot of companies seem to get into trouble fumbling around with color. Funny Range Rover does a great job with color and interior trims. Jag seems a bit clumsy in this area.
