Default Who has the oldest XJ6?

I'm just curious because as far as I know my XJ6 is the oldest one around, apart from the PHP42G.

Does anyone even have a 1968 XJ6?

My car is a Jaguar XJ6-4.2 made on the 24th of May, 1969.

I did research and asked a garage somewhere in England. My car is number 649. Not the oldest, but if you think how many cars didn't survive to see 2016 it's pretty good. It's within the first 1000 of the 300.000+ old XJ series that were made.

the oldest 1968 XJ is the 12 cylinder owned by William Lyons, owner of Jaguar Cars. It is kept at the museum of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust in the UK. www.jdht.com

Allright, I was disappointed roughly a week ago. In an old barn not far from my home relatively speaking I found a 1968 Jaguar XJ6. I do not own the oldest Dutch Jaguar XJ6 and the chances are there is more than 1 car older than mine.

The barn itself had everything I could ever dream of inside. If heaven really is a place on earth, this is it. I'll list below what I found, unfortunately no pictures. I went there to buy a coupe but we couldn't agree on it.

1 Jaguar XK120 sat for over 30 years and hasn't driven since. No paint, but most parts were there.
1 Jaguar series 1 E-type he raced on a racetrack. Has also sat for a long time.
1 Jaguar XJC broadspeed replica
1 Jaguar XJ12C in good shape
1 Jaguar XJC in bad shape, sills are not properly mounted to the body
1 Jaguar S-type in unknown shape
1 Daimler Double Six series 1 (v12 with carburettors!)
1 Jaguar XJ6 series 1 from 197x
1 Jaguar XJ6 series 1 1968
1 Jaguar XJ series 1 unknown
1 Jaguar XJ6 series 3 badly rotten, outside
1 Jaguar XJS V12 MANUAL! Will drive away in 4th gear haha
1 Daimler 420 (not familiar with this car)
1 Jaguar 420
Another E-type somewhere

Next door there was 5 more vehicles: 1 coupe V12, 3 Jaguar XJ6's series 1 I think, and a series 3.

The owner is a collector. The cars are not in the greatest shape, no pristine perfect cars that will drive out fine. But I loved it. haha It was a great experience.

What is the date of registration? The MWK 28G is the oldest 2.8.

Mine is from 24/5/1969 and mostly original. Some holes in the rear wheel arch, valance and the radiator crossmember had to be replaced. Mileage is probably over 150k, if not double that.

Have been away for two weeks. I included a picture of what the car looked like when I got it, and what it's like now. Also the donor engine and transmission. The entire car will be repainted Sable most likely.

There is a great article in the July/August 2018 Jaguar Journal (JCNA) about number 50003 which is currently located in San Diego. The current owner's father bought it in 1973. Totally restored but driven and enjoyed. He even mentioned driving it on shopping trips to Costco.

I possibly have the newest Series 1 here. 19 numbers from the last series 1 off the line. Series 2 cars were already being built before mine was.

Here's a link to the oldest XJ ( 2.8 auto - pre launch model)on Facebook - I'm in regular contact with the owner - a beautiful car and he has photos of the car dating back to pre-launch, complete with "disguise" when it was taken to Spain for a photoshoot before the launch.

Wow. If you have not checked out the link above you really should (you don't need to have a Facebook account to just look at it). That car was the magazine photo shoot car for Jaguar in 1968 and they show the covers of the many magazine covers it was featured on back then and again this year. Imagine having lots of professionally shot photographs of your car when it was new. That car is a true Cover Girl. Like being married to a supermodel.

I fully agree - I have been digging around for scrappy shots of our Jag when she was new, and have ended up with about 4 half decent ones, but to have a treasure trove like this would be wonderful. Did you get to look at the latest shots where they went back to Spain this year, to re-trace the original photoshoot before the launch? Some incredible stuff there. Also interesting to see that Jaguar insisted oh replacing the engine with a brand new one, when they finally sold her - all the paperwork is on that site.
