This is my choice for my subwoofer upgrade I am currently working on.

No room for a pair CDT distributor "Rubyserv" sold me a single 6x9. I am in the process of installing a Rockford Fosgate 360.3 signal processor and two four Channel Rockford Fosgate T400.4 amplifiers.

 

Very nicely done! I still wish there was a way to drop in 6X9 and just work like the original.

 

Curious to know how it sounds. Saw the CDT drivers while looking for an aftermarket sub, and wasn't quite ready to drop 200 on a 6x9 sub driver just yet.. If they work well on the oem amp, it may be worth reconsidering

 

I have it connected temporarily to one channel of the factory Alpine amp it sounds ok I can't wait to power this baby up though!

 

Covered with matching headliner material.

 

Been working on an amp rack that won't interfere with trunk floor or battery cover. I used 2" X 1/4" aluminum flat bar to make a bracket behind fuel tank, then used 3.5" carriage bolt through the carpet to hold down the 1/2" MDF amp rack.
I am trying to think of a cool cover idea using clear plastic.

Please tell me you are adding a big subwoofer somewhere and didn't do all that for the infinite baffle 6x9...

That's like mounting a second engine to a car with stock 13" wheels...

Wow! Do you still have the spare tire under that? I guess you don't need to haul much in your trunk...

 

There's still room for a space saver and tool kit under the amp rack.

The whole layout was designed so that there was still a reasonable amount of usable boot space. There's easily enough room for a couple of travel bags and a cooler bin for when we go on holiday.

Eventually, if I wanted a bit more room, I could replace the sub with something smaller, and mount the it the 'correct' way, with the motor inside the enclosure, and the cone facing outwards. But so far, with just my partner and I, we've never run out of room. Trying to fit 4 people's luggage in there might be a different story though.

 

Grandell looks great! This is my second XJ and the first one had two DC audio 12" subs in an enclosure inside the trunk and its sucked. I am using all the stock locations and going to dial and tweak till it sounds to my likings possibly might build some type of enclosure inside that sits on the back seat.

 

RE audio XXX. Recognize that beast of a sub anywhere. 80lbs of magnet and a real cleverly designed split coil iirc.

Thanks all It was a long time in the planning... I bought half og the gear before I even had the car!

Hah... close, but it's not quite that insane. I think the whole thing weighs about 70lbs total. Was still a bit of a challenge to mount it that way though, lots of steel and reinforcements to make sure it doesn't go anywhere!

FYI the front speakers are kevlar with neo magnets, hand build in NZ by a movie theater stereo specialist, and the amps are Swedish, and are dual mono's, so each front speaker effectively has it's own individual amp
