Ok, so I'm very new to all this, hope it goes through. I bought a 2003 x type. The battery light came on. Read as many Post's adi could and found out that my cables could be bad. Once i looked at cables the Post's were terribly corroded, I cleaned them, still have an occasional light. So I was going to change the cables, but before I did, i noticed a small cable that's connected to the positive wire that goes to fuse box that's not pluged in anywhere. Should it be? If so where? Thanks

A picture would help greatly with this one. Is the wire connected to the positive post? Or is it connected to the fuse box? Or is it connected at one end to the positive post and the other end to the fuse box?

 

Thanks Avern1 for replying. Here is a photo of what I'm looking at. The cable my finger are under is the positive cable that runs from fuse box to battery. The plug on the smaller wire was just laying under fuse box. Moved it for pic. .any ideas?

That is just something that was used when the car was transported when new. You can ignore it. It has no use now. I believe there is a spot by the battery you can plug it into if memory serves.

I also noticed that the positive cable going to the solenoid is also connected to the cable going to the alternator with one cable end. In other words, to cange the cable, it looks as the i have to unhook it from alternator. Is this a jag thing, or did someone make the cable this way.?

 

While you are looking at battery cables be sure to check both ends of the ground cable, they are known to corrode where it connects at the frame end.

 

Thanks Bud, I'm gonna go ahead and change them both, but i did notice that on the solenoid the cable was loose, in other i could move it up & down, I'm thinking this might have caused a lot of my problems. It wasn't making good connection. Although it has always started.
