I just purchased the Dorman 611-117 nuts for my 2000 S-type. They do stick out about 1mm past the wheel but the rotors have a small recess that accepts it. They work great and look great.
found these recommended somewhere here on the forum and they're working great on my 01. they extend slightly past the inside edge of the rim, but the brake rotor is recessed a little - enough - that the extension past the wheel rim does not bottom out on the rotor and nuts keep wheel and rotor tight to hub. need a 7/8" on them even though spec shows 21mm-13/16"
Brand: Precision European Motorwerks
Part Number: PE-20pc-12x1.5-Mag-SR
12mm x 1.5 / 12x1.5 / M12x1.5 Threads
Those are the lugs I bought from Amazon. They work perfectly. The old lugs were
Rusted and SS was flaking off. Best deal out there.
Well, only took about 5 minutes to get the rounded one off, I thought it would be worse. I waited until the last minute.... mine have been rounding for a while now. Nice Nuts, Jaguar!
The replacements came from Amazon, the DP's referenced above. Probably didn't need to post this, but thought I'd share.
Well, I got lucky and was able to remove each lug nut one at a time on all four tires, put a dab of grease on each bolt (had some rust on all) and snug to around 90 ft lbs as spec (85-100) without any deformation on the cheap covering while doing a tire rotation. Did it all by hand slowly and not using an air gun fast spinning to deform the covering.
Most worked with 19mm, but a few needed the slightly larger 3/4" socket. None stuck in the socket.
I'm one of the lucky ones.
Duly noted and adjusted torque. Just a small dab of grease, since mine were frozen on. Wanted a coating on the rust. Both threads M&F had rust.
Since the bevel on the nuts never contact anything with the mags, I believe the bevel is intended for the steel doughnut spare for securing.
Beating this dead horse again for a bit more.
I'm wary of the extended 1/8" shank on the Dorman (611-117/611-211) and DPAccessories (90084-94001) lug nuts. And the DP ones that are perfect for the Jag (C2C35294) are twice in price. Don't want to spend almost $100 for 20 of them.
So, I picked out four of the OEM's that had the most deformation on the covering, cut off the covering to expose really nice hex underneath. It is not a star pattern like posted above. A standard hex.
18mm socket fits good, but 11/16" (7.5mm) fits better. Put one on each wheel to simulate a lock lug. Not the prettiest look, but can be painted.
Sockets are in the tool bag always in the trunk/boot with a breaker bar.
Not at all from getting the cover off.
The shiny areas are from the dremel cut-off wheel. Never touched the edges on the main hex area.
Just a slight rounding in sparse areas from the years of the covering contacting the main lug nut from on & off since 2005. Sockets fit fine and come off and on with ease. All the others with the covering are pristine and still tight. Just 1mm smaller in diameter than the 19mm.
Next step is to take a toilet paper cardboard center, cut and form it onto a cone, place over the nut in the wheel and spray black enamel paint on the nut to coat it and make it look decent. Make it look like a black colored lock lug just for a deterrent different from the rest.
Cost.....$0.00. Labor....who cares.
Decided to remove the four from the mags instead of the cone trick. More control for painting.
Used Rustoleum gloss paint/primer for wrought iron fences I had in my garage I forgot about. Still good.
Pic shows hex is in great shape. Gives the mags a sort of different look from the rest of the chromed ones. Like a black aftermarket lock lug.
Well,
Did four of them and worked out fine.
Does look like a lock lug from a glance to give it that look.
Ok, I'm done here.
I can even do it on all lugs if the coverings ever become a problem.
Like the zero cost, since the car was given to me for free.
OEM Jaguar S-TYPE (2005) wheel LUG NUTS beginning to show rust deposits. VERY HARD TO CLEAN!
Jaguar S-Type lug nuts sometimes have a tendency to deposit a haze of brownish-red areas around the recessed lug holes of chrome wheels. Rust film is caused by 2 steel washers connected to the backs of lug nuts. Iron content of washers occasionally builds up a brownish-red haze around the recessed lug nut holes on chrome wheels. Cleaning and polished is restrictive due to the tight space surrounding each lug nut.
I deep cleaned and sealed so they will last a long time without rusting.
Backsides & edges of the lug nut washers were all power cleaned with wire brush wheel on drill motor to expose clean steel on floating washers.
Both washers on backside of each lug nut where cleaned inside and out.
After masking the shiny side (facing outwards) of Lug nuts, backsides and washers were sprayed with 2 coats of Heavy rust protection Rustoleum (silver metallic).
RUST WON'T EASILY rear its ugly head on THESE lug nuts! See attached photos: After buffing, polishing and painting backsides of each lug, I found it easy to store them in plastic egg carton. Extreme close-up of backside of lug nuts showing 2 floating washers cleaned and painted with Rustoleum. Aluminum covers will never rust! They look chrome enough from 3 feet away. This set is now my "spare set of lug nuts".
