Default Lights Flashing

Just bought a 92 XJS V12. When the car's lights are on auto, they turn on and off while driving. Turning on the lights keeps them on. If I turn off the car and turn off the lights, the lights continue to turn on and off.

I have to disconnect the battery to keep it from draining.

There isn't an alarm on the vehicle. So, I'm guessing the automatic sensor is bad? Just don't understand why the vehicle keeps flashing the lights after it is off.

I didn't know that was fitted to the xjs. Is it a Canadian import ?

Oddities. I'd suspect the light/dark sensor. My Jeep has auto lights. Kind neat. Our Nanny state recently decreed that we must turn on the head lights whenever the wipers
are used. That should tell us that it's raining and visibility is lessened. Gee, that is an eye opener...

My Jeep's sensor is erratic. At times, merely going under a freeway underpass will turn on he lights. And, at times night fall is ignored !!

Tis nice to see that I am smarter than it is. I know when it's time for headlights....

I didn't realise XJ-S export models had auto lights.

certainly don't have them on my 1993 facelift (UK)

They don't. Canada has relays that make the headlights act as DRL s

I'm thinking this has something to do with the battery being unhooked off the XJS. Someone suggested locking the door with the key after reconnecting. I'll have to try this.

I'm mistaken on the auto light feature. Thought is was because the lights were turning on and off in the off position.

Lots to learn on this purchase.

Does it also beep when the light flash ? A 1992 should have the remote locking key fob and alarm system. To check, open the trunk, open the panel on the right side behind the lights. You should see the antenna and a big white connector. If this connector is connected and behind the right lights is a black box you have the alarm.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have the security system.
