Default Fitting a New Stereo (what's my next move?)

Hi Guys

I am in the process of Installing a New Stereo to replace the pull out Radio but not sure how to remove the Old Cage.

It looks like I may have to drill out those 4 rivets that are facing outwards in the Photo.

If I have to do that, will I be able to pull the Cage right out.

What is on the back of the Cage, will there be a plug I can unplug, so that I can plug in my Harness adapter.

Also I would like to reuse the Old Cage, as its a perfect fit for the New Stereo but how do I remove the Rivet studs, so I can rivet it back in.

I would drill out the rivots to remove the frame. Then remove the plug from back of frame. You may need to cut a hole for the wiring on new deck to fit. Then rivot it back in.
As for the wiring just meter it and match to new deck. The old frame wiring may still have tags on wires.

One more thing. Check the wiring to speaker as they may use chassis for ground. I would run new wires to speakers if it was me.

Hi BC

Cheers

I had a bit of a feeling those rivets might have to come out but was wondering how far the Cage pulls out to unplug the Plug on the back of the Cage.

Then when I unplug the Plug from the back of the Cage, I'm hoping that the Plug will plug into this Adapter (see photo its the white Plug not the black one)

I should have plenty of room behind the Stereo as this new one is only half as deep as the old one.

Will the Plug on the back of the Cage plug into the 'White' Adapter?

Hi Guys

Any idea what the Black Plastic Box on the back of this Cage does?

Its stuck on with some sort of Super Glue, does it need to be in contact with the Cage or can I cut it off with a knife between the Black Box and the Cage.

Bear in mind I may want to Retro Fit the Old Radio one day.

What does the Black Box on the back of the cage do, as its still connected to the Original Plug.

Is maybe one of those static sound removal diodes? So the altenator doesn't whine in the speakers?

Hi Daim

I have no idea what it does but, its either take the box off or cut the wire.

Maybe Warrjon will know.

It a noise reduction device. Reduces whine from electronic devises. You can reuse it or remove it. Your choice

Hi BC

I guess I may as well re-use it then, as I am going to need an In line Fuse Holder anyway and that's the only wire that I will have to cut.

All the other wires are on Bullet Connectors which came as a bit of a surprise, as there was no where to plug in the special adapter that I bought.

If I re-use the Black Box does it need to be in contact with the metal on the side of the Cage, or can I just put it in the space behind the Cage somewhere?

It was massively daunting removing the old unit, so I just had to wing it and hope for the best.

They certainly didn't stint on the wiring, when I pulled the Cage out, all the wires were long enough to reach down to the floor.
