Default Pimping the ride a little

What do you think about adding those chrome 'air vents'? that I think came in 08 (pictured below). Has anyone put them on, on their prior year XJ's? If so, did you feel good afterwards? I think pre-08, it lacks the slight surface indentation in which these air vents rest, so I dont know after your mod, do they look good or not ... any pics would be helpful

What other mods have folks done?

Hi Don,
There were a few threads on the issue of those vents.
IIIRC, you have to change fenders to have them (maybe even the front bumper, the X358' one is different), so not cheap.
Others wmay chime in

You are correct, you will need x358 front wings designed for the vents. Others have glued the vents onto the original wings and it looks fake and tacky imo. I believe the x358 bumper is not required. I have '07 Portfolio wings with a '08 bumper, so don't see why is can't be the other way round. However, you will need to either put x358 mirrors with side indicators, or add holes to the wings...

The funny thing is that glued original vents on flat wings looks more functional than pushed into formed wing which makes them more decorative) anyway, just avoid chip ebay universal vents that really looks awful.

Whatever you do some will like it and some will not. It is a personal preference issue.

I added a rear pedestal spoiler to "differentiate" my car and some like it some not.

The chap I bought my Super V8 off (Beavis, on the forum), converted it to facelift spec:

That is the x358 wings & vents.

Then he found these Portfolio vents & wings made from solid alloy + respray:

The std X358 vents are not functional, there is no hole for airflow, not to sure about if this is the case for the portfolio.

This is what it looks like if you stick on the vents to standard wings:

The stick on that blue car is look awful because the dark (or black?) is not suit with that blue, and the placement is some how make it not look right, it should chrome or body color match.

In general taste is subjective. The reason the blue car has the black side vents is because he has black trim everywhere else and no chrome anywhere. Would they look better blue? For some yes, for some no. For me I'd do without altogether.
