I have searched through a number of part catalogues, but I am really struggling to find a part number for the the whistle stop rubbers that go on top of the doors on the S3's
Wow! Years ago when i got mine i found them on ebay, a quick seach brings up nothing now! I have no idea about part number, i would suggest reaching out to everyones friend and saviour ,David Boger! He posts on here and usually has just about anything you need! Good luck!
Thank you... I am an idiot... I realize what these are now, I was assuming it was a neoprene pad that went behind the chrome. Thanks to your help I now know they are plastic grommets that sit in the end of the chrome rails...
(I really should stick to S1 & S2 )
I have just found one on one of our parts cars, I will see if it reduces the wind noise at 60-70mph
I had to use a 2x4 to.reduce my wind noise, open window and door. Place 2x4 through window from outside and pry top.of.door in a hair, sounded like a drastic plan when it was told to me years ago, but it worked, just dont get over zealous!
I would swear this is coming from the sunroof, but the seal look perfect on that, but hard to tell exactly from the drivers seat, I am just slowly working my way through wind noise fixes until it goes away lol
Door window frames were always set that way in the dim and distant past when I worked for a living. There is a risk of cracking the paint and any joint sealer though. Tailgates and bonnets/hoods can be set that way too!!
Another great play on words. Or, merely odd nomenclature.
I've seen those little rubber plugs called "whistle stops". A bit logical. The open end of the finisher is indeed a whistle. Air moving across an opening. A musician knows this in "wood winds".
But, air leaks in doors and hatches also make noise. On the same musical principle.
Yeah, I've seen the two x four adjustment made.
IN the days of Steam locomotives. A small town depot, aka "Whistle stop". Ala "Orange Blossom Special".....
In the rough, a chunk of black RTV in the opening....
the noise does not come from the lack of that rubber trim cap, but from the Rubber Seal that runs through the entire perimeter of the door. It flattens with age.
I dealt with the issue early in 1990 when I started to travel between Nashville TN and Pennsylvania, an 18 hr. trip mostly on cruise at 80mph with windows closed.
So one day when I travelled back to Nashville I ran a credit card through the area between the seal and the jamb and the noise stopped at a given point.
SOLVED! It was the Seal not making positive contact at a particular spot.
back in Nashville, I put a length of black self-sticking velcro tape at the point of the noise, never heard the wind noise again.
I need to add something like that along the bottom of my driver side front door. It's forced "recovery" from a hyper extension leaves a bit of a gap there. More than a mere whistle. cold air!!!
You think you 4-door guys got it tough. Try to get the leaks out of a 2-door pillar-less coupe'. I've been fighting the seals and alignment for a couple of weeks now trying to get it perfect. I've found there is no such thing as...

Yeh, but when you wind the rear windows down, that is the coolest mechanism on earth!
I didn't even realize they went down when we got our coupe, the penny only dropped when I was stripping the interior & found the motors XD
Way back when, I favored tudor cars over four door versions. Two less doors to mess with. and more "sporty". Won some, lost some.
And today, each of my cars is a four door.
Coco and I went on errands today. Beat the rain. Jaguar purred. But, home, opened the boot. Hinges seemed a bit stiffer, up and down ? Another task??
And filled the green recycle can with downed Hawthorne slash. Didn't want to miss tomorrow's pickup day. I've much for them to mulch!!! Leary of more chopping with electric whacker and saw. Wet yard.

I think Fiboy in Finland resolved the problem, check his website:
