Can you tell us a little bit more about the "quality" issue you're referencing to?

 

On the one hand, the honeycombs are larger than those of the P7 grill.
The mounting holes are very thin drilled and the material is very thin.
The grill is made of plastic and some of the crossbars are not
symmetrical. Also, the grille has not been deburred. It just looks
very cheap and not of high quality. Two parts were supplied, the
grille and the surround. The surround is also very flexible and not
high quality. Very bad, because I would have liked the look very much.
Still no option for such a car.

 

 

That is unfortunate. I had hoped this could have been one of my winter projects the end of this year.

 

Absolutely disgraceful, I am really surprised that Paramount would put their name to such a piece of junk!


As you are from Germany and front licence plates are mandatory, where do you plan on fitting the plate?

 

And this is just a picture. The whole grill looks so gruesome. I would have painted two sheets black and cut to my size the mark. A plate behind the grill and a screwed in front of it. Then mark the plate on the plate. Between Jaguar symbol and lower end of the grill. On the front sides of the thread is a picture as I would have imagined it.

 

Yeah at $400 for a simple grill delete you would think it would be better quality. That's a shame.

 

I will continue to use the sho 'n sto bracket after the P7 conversion is done.

Unhingd told the oem p7 grille costs:

"The Grille itself is 145 British Pounds and the surround that is needed to go with it is 113 British Pounds. That's about 300 euro together."

 

I know someone who can obtain the original Jaguar parts, grille & surround but he is asking £650!

I asked in January with Jaguar LR Germany and my local hands because of the original P7 parts.
Then I was told that they were restricted parts and can not be ordered.

I still gave the part numbers and a VIN of a P7.

Now I got an email today that the two parts of the grill could be ordered and arrived at my local Jaguar dealer. In the pictures you can clearly see the difference of the OEM parts to the parts of Paramount Performance.
The surround is in white, so I have to paint it, but that does not matter.
So the project goes on :-)

What is still good, the price of OEM parts is even slightly cheaper than that of Paramount Performance ... The parts of Paramount Performance were sent back.

 

How is it actually with the original P7? Where is the park sensor? Has the none?

 

The Project 7 does not have front PDC.


I have mentioned in a PM, the BMW X4 has PDC sensors mounted on both side grille vents of the lower front section and they are fitted into small dome mounts that are welded to the plastic mesh. It might be possible to fabricate something similar out of ABS plastic, with lugs that would clip onto the grille mesh?


Maybe someone with design skills who has access to a 3D printer!


It would also increase the distance from the mesh grill and put the sensor closer to the original position, as the original bumper bar is further forward.

Indeed you could. You could remove them entirely and put a resistor in its place.

The tough thing about these sensors is that they are specifically dialed in based on their location. Move it anywhere else and you could have "blind spots" or distance issues with the system. Its very difficult to relocate these beyond the factory placement without issue while retaining full functionality.

 

Exactly that is why I suggested mounting the two sensors on cones that clip on the front of the front of the plastic mesh, to minimize any distance differential. You can get the exact locations by placing the P7 grill in front of the bumper bar and marking the two positions.


The only problem someone needs to fabricate clip on cones with the appropriate sized hole to retain the sensor.

 

cones would look stupid and I very much doubt a couple inches farther inboard is going to make any difference. Personally, my plan was to unplug the two sensors and see what happens; if nothing, I'd just leave them off rather than messing around with them. I've heard the resistor comment before but last time we talked about this, nobody knew if running with the two sensors missing would cause a problem....

+1. The two outside sensors give me all the visibility I need. Besides, the connections are at right angles and the connector would then interfere with the grill if you placed them forward with some kind of cone. You would have to find sensors with the connections coming straight out of the back of them.

 

Well if the car doesn't know they are missing, there wouldn't be a problem.

 

I'll check the resistance across that sensor. Does anyone know what the voltage is in that circuit? I'm going to get launched on this project.
