My intention would be insert the sensor into the adaptor from the rear and to hold the sensor in place with a u-shaped strip of metal and 2 screws. I would then insert the assembly into the honey comb from the rear and use adhesive on the tabs to hold them to the horizontal channels on the back side of the grille. The tabs can always be cut off if the adaptors need to be pushed further into the honeycomb for proper sensing. Creating the test adaptors as drawn, will allow us to come up with the best design.

 

I am not sure whether it is critical to have the sensors flush with the front of the grille. Both rocspo and I have them in about 1/2 inch from the bottom of the selected honeycomb and they work. I have noticed that when I pull up to a curb that the screen diagram goes from yellow at 24 inches and then to red at 12 inches but then goes off pretty quickly, so closer to the front would probably give me a longer red.

Unhinged, your diagram looks like your mount is 15mm thick. Are you going to be able to adjust it vertically after assembly. I'm not sure but I think it is important to be able to adjust the sensor vertically in the honeycomb after the front end is reinstalled.

I think he means aim, as in vertical tilt. Don't see any advantage to adjusting the entire assembly a millimeter or two up and down, but getting the right aim - up or down - in relation to the horizon could impact performance.

Frankly, my biggest concern is detecting curbs and parking bumpers, so I intend to position my sensor slightly above the midline of the honeycomb aperture, then tilt slightly down.

 

Certainly makes more sense. With custom filing and shimming, my design should be adequately adjustable. If I had a machine shop, I'd create an articulated adaptor with adjusting set screws.

I was originally thinking about something like you are considering Unhinged, until I read rospco's procedure in which he pointed out that the sensors had to be adjusted for vertical tilt after assembly. How critical that is I don't know but to be safe that is how I had it done.

It would be much nicer to use the Sto n sho bracket that fits under the lower deflector.


Regarding the extension of the cables, this is a really simple job you just need to find the same thickness of wire, then cut and use heat shrink to seal. Anyone with basic knowledge could complete this in a couple of minutes.
