I'm on my first long distance road trip with the XK8. 130 miles in and I'm averaging 27.7mpg @74mph. Amazing! Although this is dead flat Ohio highway.

Interestingly, about as soon as I merged onto the highway I found myself in line with these three vintage British brethren out for a Saturday morning cruise. Also note the ever-present Ohio orange barrels

Three years ago my wife and I hired a rental car in Los Angeles and drove it across the country to visit family in Florida. I knew then that I needed to purchase shares in the company that manufactures the orange barrels!

I also came to the conclusion that all roads/highways in the USA eventually taper down to one lane. Same as Australia!

Was headed from Cincinnati to Cleveland, about 240 miles. Tomorrow I turn around and head back. I was surprised how much I liked using the ASL. Allowed me to drive the car (vs cruise) but kept me from creeping up toward the 90s, which is so easy to do in this car.

 

Today my wife and I took a nice day trip to a quaint little town, Dundas in southwestern Ontario. We parked on the main drag and had a nice lunch and some craft beer on a sidewalk cafe. Our 2004 XK8 convertible is our excuse to do Sunday drives this time of the year. Today a man with a British accent stopped me while I was putting things in the trunk, and told me he had just moved from Britian, had always wanted an XK8 but didn't know they sold them here. Our convertible has 127,000 miles on it and runs like a dream. As we were driving home on a very busy freeway, a guy in a new XJL rolled up beside us and rolled his window down and gave us a thumbs up as he rolled buy. I never fail to have a freindly conversation with someone about the car which I guess is just added incentive to keep her polished. I am also amazed at the gas mileage on this car, mine averaged 37.9 mpg on our 1800 mile round trip to Myrtle Beach last september. That is a Canadian gallon by the way.
We don't have Palm trees were I live but they suit the car.

 

I've yet to check the mileage on my '06 XK8 coupe, in almost a year of ownership. I suppose I should, one of these days. Seems pretty economical anyway and that was hardly a consideration in my purchase! I live outside a very podunk town. I drive my Jag to town pretty regularly and get very little comment on it. Bunch of clods around here. I however never tire of looking at my beauty.

 

Ok first long road trip off to a good start, first leg NJ To Md 279 mls, ran great,thank the lord for AC.
Engine temp ran steady between 208F-203F fuel trims all went down to Zero or slightly negative for LT don't know if this is good or bad computer says 25.7 mpg but will get a better idea tomorrow when I fill up. Found great restaurant in Salisbury and suprised when I came out to find a FE parked next to me , first other jag I'd seen all day.
Second leg of trip tomorrow, about Same distance, would go further but my better haif gets cranky after 5hrs?

FYI anyone interested
2nd day another 280 mls, now in NC fuel consumption great at 26.7 mpg that's running air 100% of the time due to temps in the 90's and high humidity. Last leg tomorrow to Myrtle beach.cant complain about her, temps steady at 205f almost all the time ltft running slightly negative is this ok? Any feedback appreciated.

As long as coolant temperature stays in range and level doesn't drop, the only other items I check on a trip are oil and tyres at each fuel stop.

Anything seriously out of range will trigger the MIL so I just enjoy the drive.
