Replaced my MacGuyver "carriage bolt with electrical tape" solution with the official parts from the link above. My car came with what I believe is an aftermarket cover and had no pins. Thanks to this thread l learned they exist and where to find them!

I am having a problem with the front portion of the cover raising up at higher speeds. Specifically the section that tucks behind the back seat. I use the standard tubes and straps and the two eyelets and tuck the rest. Any suggestions.

 

You mentioned every thing that holds the tonneau cover in place except the two snap buttons behind each headrest of the back seat. With those snapped in place, it should not rise up. I assume the "eyelets" you are talking about are the snaps that fit on to the studs at the sides by the door pillar? I saw a photo on this thread that looks like an aftermarket cover that doesn't have the snaps for the backseat that I'm talking about. If your cover doesn't have the female side of the snaps, look at the back of the rear seats to see if the male side of the snaps are there. If so, you may be able to add the snaps to your cover and solve the issue.

 

My cover has the two snaps at the sides and the three tubes on the back but the parts that lifts up at higher speeds is the middle front section that tucks behind the rear seat. The cover is original to the car which only has 35,000 miles.

I think I am going to have a upholster shop put some fastners on that section.

 

How fast have you been driving?! ;-)

 

perhaps you can achieve a similar result with lead weights attached in some way to the cover itself such as pinning or gluing them to the underside of the flap. When you tuck it behind the rear seats, the weights should keep it from lifting.

dare i ask at what speed this issue presents itself.

 

Just put some of the hook side of velcro on there and it will attach to the back of the rear seat.

 

I'm willing to bet that the cover is not original to the car if you see a snap behind each seat. Does your car have the snaps? My 1997 XK8 has the snaps and I doubt they would forsake them on later model years unless they did a redesign on the cover.

 

It is the original cover that came with the car. It does have two fasteners that attach to two fittings on the top of seats off the near the shoulder area.

I noticed the center portion of the panel that tucks behind the seat started to flutter about 45 to 50 mph and came out of the tuck at between 65 to 70 mph. All the other areas where the top tucks remained in place.

 

XK8 Comfort......I'll have to take a photo of my cover as the "cut" of my cover between the two headrest snaps is not identical to the cut of yours in your photo and I think this difference may be the reason yours flutters....I'll take the photo later today after the wife gets home with the car.

In the interest of science I tested mine to 150mph and it never fluttered. Looks exactly like yours.

 

I will try taking it up to 150 and see if the cover tucks back in....

 

If anything I have the opposite occurring where the cover gets pushed down from the wind.

I took a look at mine and it seems to be a lot lower behind the seats. Wondering if your top frame is folding completely down?

Also noticed that the corners on yours are tucked off the seat instead of laying over the seat. Look at how mine are done below. I think that is the correct way.

The combo of these two differences might be letting the air underneath enough to work the cover loose.

My cover has been on for about a week now with lots of highway driving.
