Default Convertible top tonneau cover- how do these attach?

I'm thinking about getting one of these to prevent the top headliner from flapping around when I'm driving with the top down. Cleaner look too if it's going to be down for awhile. Who has these and how do they attach?

Chris - they are easy to use - there is a stud on the trim just above the rear speaker that the metal snap fits on to, then the rear of the cover where the 3 tabs are fits under the trunk lid to keep the tonneau in place. The front flap fits down between the rear seat and the top.

Yes they do - there are reinforcing steel rods sewn into both sides. Always amazes me that the whole thing stays in place at speed, but it does. There's a European manufacturer that does a hard version of the tonneau cover but they are seriously expensive - great looking though.

Yes, they just tuck down between the side of the top and the body.

They also serve the purpose of keeping your headliner clean.

If you're looking to purchase one, take a look on eBay. I've purchased a canvas bag for my boot for storage purposes there and was very pleased (it also has an embroidered leaper on it matched to my exterior color.. I should post a pic). But anyway, he also makes boots for about $250.00. If they're of the same caliber workmanship as my bag, might be worth taking a look.

I was just going to recommend the same guy on ebay. I bought the storage pouch from him and his quality is great.

Cool! I was wondering if anyone else on here had worked with him.. apparently the bag was a factory accessory but I've never found an OEM one. I was also really surprised at how well he matched the embroidery.. my exterior is kind of tricky (dark blue/gray pearl).

+1 on saving the headliner. I usually only put mine on for highway driving. My beige headliner is always just a little dirty as a result.

And the car does look better with them on.

I did actually talk with Chuck at one time when I was ordering the bag from him. From what I gathered he took the basic OEM tonneau design and improved on it. He was going into all sorts of detail about how he did this or that to improve the stability of the flaps, etc. He took much pride in going through all this with me and it is clear if you get a tonneau or anything else from him it will be A+ quality.

Cool deal. I've been watching his for awhile now on there but ended up getting the factory leather one that popped up last week (the same one shown at the top here) for a bit less that should perfectly match. Thanks for the helpful info! Pics soon.

After fastening the two metal button connections properly, you need to tuck in all of the tonneau cover's edges. That certainly keeps ours snugly in place....

Heidemo,
I also was unhappy with the tonneau flopping and rippling too much at speed, so I had the hook side of velcro sewn to each of the 3 flaps that tuck into the trunk. The velcro straps are about 16-18" long and attach to the felt liner on the underside of the trunk lid. I pull them quite taut, and there are virtually no ripples or flex at any speeds ( including those that are 50 mph over the legal limit). I will take photos later after an appointment and post them. It's an easy fix for under a couple of dollars and 5 minutes of time.

Default towels

I have the cover, but when rain is expected I want to be able to put the top up quickly; So I'm putting 3 rolled up towels bethind the backseats holding the top nice and tighly down. Very little flapping, and when I put the top up, the towels fall onto the 'hat shelf' under the rear window. Only works once a journey...

I should probably put this on youtube as I find it hard to explain.

Any takers?

Ha! That's pretty cleaver. And should solve any flapping issues- mine isn't taut, but it doesn't flap either. Anyone having trouble with it should perhaps do the towel trick, and make sure all ends are tucked away and fastened properly.

Pictures as promised. See below. Absolutely no flapping. I have also added two pieces to the sides that velcro to two pieces of the loop velcro that I have glued to the undersides of the body where the side wings tuck in. In addition, I have sewn a strip of the hook velcro to the front flap that tucks in behind the back seats. The hook catches the velour so that you don't see a big gap any longer between the back seat back and the tonneau.

Looks like a nice clean fix tberg.

Mine ruffled a bit at speed too, but my less elegant fix was to put two marine eyelets, one on each side, in the flaps that go behind the seats. I use two short bungie cords from the baby car seat brackets to hook onto the eyelets and everything stays put.

Quick and easy to connect and disconnect as well. Plus it doesn't show when the cover is on.
