Default Need Direction w/ Gearshift on 02'

I need to fix my Gearshift selector can't pinpoint wear I need to focus on. I have to press on the plastic clip to shift out. The brakes work fine and hear the click (but somewhat difficult to shift out w/o pressing the clip. The lights illuminate perfectly and nothing electronically wrong . The replacement metal part differ between 02 and 03 on the web. Wonder if this the only area I should focus on before I pull it apart.

Got any pics? Not sure I follow what clip you mentioned. Is your J-gate partially disassembled and you're talking about a piece that is normally hidden from view?

Here that plastic piece, but after 1 week and a half it started to work fine.( like this morning) I need to make sure though. There difference is between 02' and 03 s types I would prefer metal( gearshift cam), but it holding out somehow. My buddy's friend spilt soda onto the J gate, that when it happen. Going to use WD40 whenever I get freetime.

Hi Johnny
If yours is an early model, like mine a five speed, then here is a link to a pdf Posted by Bob Gauff "Motorcarman" at post 11. There is a part number if this is your problem.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/v...41/#post403359

If it is the later models with 6 speed, the bolts holding the linkages on the gearbox can come loose.

There are other problems such as not getting out of park which is a plastic selector pawl which can be replaced with a metal one. I had to do this on my car.

The link above discusses all these and you can narrow down your problem. There will be more information if you search the forum as both models have different issues.

Paul

Hi sorry I was busy to reply, but everything is working fine now . WD40 worked wonders and the plastic selector pawl is working great. Last time I have someone's dumb date ride passenger . It took a lot of cola to cause that particular problem. I don't understand why the same parts have different names , I guess the part number really matters.
