Default X300 rear view mirror

Hello,
so my rear view mirror is totally bad.
It is kinda oddly damaged, images are like split in two and by night
the automatic dimmer is not working and I kinda get blinded having lights and split headlights (Behind me) images going directly in my eyes all the time.
My question here is to ask if does exist a MANUAL Jaguar or aftermarket rear view mirror replacement without the auto-dim feature... Looking for a cheap solution.
thanks!

Nope ......without removing the hole unit from the front window mounting the plastic frame splits on half by clips . Regular mirror material from the craft store can be cut to pattern with glass cutters , pliers , and leather gloves . The dimming chemical I assume is toxic and corrosive on the original mirror . Put a towel over the wood in case you have a drip .

There are plenty non-dimming X300 rear view mirrors on eBay, price ranging from GBP17-35. The self-dimming ones are very expensive even used. I imagine that those from 308 should also fit.

There are 2 different versions in which it unclips from the window mounting differently . It was too complex a concept for me to effectively deal with so I left it alone . And I think the wiring is difference . The fluid being corrosive from what I have read gets into the transmission lever interlock items below so heads up on that . I think it was Bob Gauff that had a Dallas repair shop source he used to restore the mirror to full functionality as they came up with a different working chemical .

You can get exactly the same mirror from a Citroen C8, just need to transfer the mount and extend the cable slightly as the C8 one is shorter. Plenty of these mirrors in Europe, post shouldn't be a problem.

xjforty, if your original one has dimmer function it should have a triangular fixing to the window mount and a connecting cable (3-pin, 4 pin?) tracing to the roof liner. If you do not want to retain the dimming function, you can cut the cable when removing the mirror. To make things simple, you can reuse the rubber seal and the original mount if you can find a replacement mirror with the triangular fixing.

the problem is that the mirror itself is really bad so I see a slightly double image on it which is more than annoying.
To find which type of connector do I need is it appropriate to pull the cable which goes underneath the headliner ?

I think that to be 100% sure I need to remove the courtesy lights holder, and there should be the rear view mirror connector inside to see if it is 3 or 4 pins. Only thing is that I'm afraid to break something in the process of removing it. In the video above in this thread it is unclear to me how to remove it properly.

That's why I punted and will go with standard mirror glass for now . Gets around whole unit removal . Talked to a glass cutter last week and said you can cut glass on a curve as long as it is not tempered

yes that would be a solution but if just put new glass, it won't have hte (manual) dim feature. I'm trying to find out one compatible to be attached to my windshield.
I think i found one on ebay... $150

If you have mirror no3 then you need eBay item number:263071088851 if you want to go the manual mirror way.

To remove your mirror you need to pull downwards in parallel to the windscreen. Just remember to keep it in the same plane as the screen, there is a little metal clip that holds it up to the mount thats glued to the screen.

Alternatively if you're still unsure how to, you can always pull the mirror itself from the ball mount, just push off the metal ring with a screwdriver and pull it off, you can see the metal ring in the attached pic. Then you can cut off the cables going through the ball and push the manual mirror onto the ball mount(manual mirror don't have a metal ring clip, it just pushes in/out).

The mirror socket under the courtesy lights will have 3 cables, 12v, ground and reverse lights switch off.

Attached pic is the citroen C8 mirror, its exactly the same as Jaguar one, just with a shorter cable, that you would have to wire up to your original mirror plug. I've fitted it, few days ago.

ok today I looked at the connector. It is 3 wire connector so should be model n.2. But the mirror looks like the same as model n.3 in the schema above, so I am more than confused now. Here is a picture my the connector.

Just to be clear it is the same connector of this picture below but the mirror is totally differentmine is the same as shown by katar83.
Shouldn't it be 4 wires connector ?
