Mine had 15" lattice too. Found some 16" SS wires on flebay and fitted them.

 

Put Her onthe ROAD fo4r the first time... Two ladies said "HellO"... Yup, first day was warm enough to have the top down AND I found a welder to finish the floor. Still have a LONG ways to go.

Hey, Hi... Yup - Minivan... And,,, she does ride low, I think, and I love it. Lower than my XK8 for sure and, lower than any car on the doggone street. What a treat this car is. Just have to keep her in shape

 

My new Alpine receiver CDE164 came in the mail today, I’m anxious to start installing it is I really miss having my Bluetooth in the car. I’ve read everything I could find about replacing the radio and it seems like it’s pretty straightforward with a possible issue with the side rail sliders. I should be starting it in the near future and I am hoping for the best. If anybody has any suggestions or ideas please bring them on. Oh yes, I’m installing it in the 1994XJS.

 

I did mine last year. It wasn't simple. Here are the problems I encountered:
1. The old radio was riveted, not screwed, in place. I had to drill out the rivets to access it.
2. The metal harness plates on either side of the radio that held it in place were welded to the radio. I had to fabricate new ones myself, as the shape is quite different to standard Japanese ones. The screw size wasn't standard, either, so I had to drill the holes out a bit wider.
3. There are no Jaguar-Kenwood connectors (Alpine might be different), so I needed a Jaguar-ISO and an ISO-Kenwood connector. One of those was wired wrong (no sound from front speakers) so I had to rewire it myself.
4. No frame plates for going around the new headunit to cover the gaps. I had to make my own using very thick card and leather glued on top.
5. The aftermarket stereo raised the antenna every time it was on. I simply removed the antenna fuse, as I never listen to the radio anyway.
6. I also needed new speakers, which isn't directly related to the stereo, but a very worthy upgrade. This time I went Alpine....

Thanks for the reply. I read through your link and was impressed with the problems you encountered. Your post didn’t indicate what year your car is so I’m hoping mine will be a bit simpler. It looks like you were able to work through the problems and ended up with a nice install. I’ll keep your info handy for when I start mine. Thanks again.

 

My car's shown in my signature - 1992 early facelift v12. Even for the same model year, there seem to be variations: in the Japan-based site I referenced for some of the work, the guy could unscrew his stereo. (His is technically a 1991, but the same early facelift model.)

 

Keep the plugs from the new radio and use that harness. Google (insert MY) XJS stereo/radio harness color code diagram - or some combination of the of words like that and all KINDS of resources should pop giving color schemes for the jag.. Simply sort it out and start matching up F, R, L, Rt, Bass, Trebles, Aux, Power etc..... Lots of times getting the things that don't exactly fit, to fit, are the pure lovely frustrating joy and accomplishment of DIY, LOL.. You'll get it done no doubt and learn stuff too. Good luck.

Since I was gone out of country for the winter, I prayed that the deep snow did not collapse my garage. I did brace it well and despite a terribly deep snow winter, it all held. I do believe it was one of the worst snow winters in British Columbia for many years. My 1992 XJS looks great and cannot wait to get her on the road. Hopefully it will not be a bad fire season. I missed driving her terribly.

 

Did 285 miles in pouring rain this week (I know, what a hero).
Left side exhaust separated from the back box.
Brother in law did a fabulous repair.
At the same time found a foot long split between the sill and the floorpan, right around the radius arm mount.
Too lazy to kill myself.
Found a repair section on line.
Bought it.
Took to drink.
