Default Chin spoiler restoration

My chin spoiler was in pretty poor shape when I received my XJS. Apparently the P.O. hit something. Or several thing more likely. There were some chunks missing from the lower edge as well as serious cracks at both ends of the center grille edge. On the starboard side it appeared torn in two but had been repaired on the back side to hold together. The port side had held on, but was 70% torn and the material was badly deformed creating a large low area. But the spoiler is largely hard to see and I left it alone. A year later it broke through the poor quality repair on the stbd and dropped the center section down towards the roadway. Time to fix it

Starboard break.

Port damage.

JB Weld is perfect for this material. Bonds like it's part of it and strong.

Body filler spatulas are great for spreading. They bend in two directions at once.

Gloss black enamel and 100 grit. Rinse and repeat.

Need another coat of epoxy here. JB Weld Quik for finish stuff 'cause it hardens in 5 minutes. You can see even tiny errors when you sand the paint down.

More enamel and 800 grit. Way too shiny! Spray "Plasti-dip" rubber coating matches the original finish nicely though!

Back in place.

Still missing that undertray. That combined with high speed cruising is probably why it failed. Yes, I have bushings on order. I know. Terrible!

Ah! Much better! Another “last one on earth”!

Not perfect, but I always prefer repairing rather than replacing and the savings bought the undertray!

Good idea! Mine has seen better days, and is slightly deformed, but I might end up having one made of aluminium...

Well done.

Great to see the undertray in close up. It’s missing on mine, and I’m considering to make a DIY replacement.

I’ll be pulling it off this weekend. I’ll take you some shot straight on top and bottom and at a 45 degree angle. With a tape rule for scale.

Its a complex shape. Tucks inro the spoiler ends and very undulated to conform to the components above it.

Thanks, that would be really great.

I was initially hoping it could be plain and flat, so I had been scared off from complex shapes shown on the photos I found of the part on eBay.

Ya gotta hunt and hunt and hunt...the world over, lol....
For me that is (can be) one of funnest parts of owning this thing. Got mine from a really weird dude in Connecticut. I can say he is weirder than I am 😂. And that's saying something.

Default …4 years later…

Rolled into jaguarforums town for the first time in a while looking to refresh my memory on dropping the front suspension. Every bushing in Jessie is shot now. 104K miles on them. Anyway, I noticed this old thread got bumped and that I never posted undertray pics. Life got a little weird for a bit.

Anyway, a curb caught my spoiler a few weeks back and put a crack by the corner of her mouth. I have some time off to use up and the front suspension is my vacation project. The right intake manifolds gotta come off to clear some foreign item I see when I run a camera down runner 3. That cylinder is running rich.

while I’m dirty and cussing I figure I’ll pull the spoiler again and repatch it. I’ll be sure to shoot the undertray nice and square.

I originally picked this one up on eBay in 2018, but all they have currently is facelift versions.

Nice to be back. This forum is a till the same awesome place it always was.
