There has been a lot of question on what to do about cracked exhaust manifolds. The easiest is to replace the pertinent manifold and put a brass plug into it if you have a non-air injection model.

I have no information about these other than seeing them on another forum but they certainly look the part if a little pricey, but I usually find quality comes at a cost.

Heck for that price, I will do it for $800, I would be willing to go down to the local Pull and Pay and get you a set. That is crazy/ $1500

 

GBP900 for a set of performance exhaust manifolds in stainless steel and machined by a professional exhaust workshop is good value in my view.

Mine were custom-made by Haward & Scott some three years ago and the price then was GBP800, shipment GBP140 extra. See my earlier thread here.

As factory exhaust manifolds are no longer available, and good used ones are getting more difficult to find, owners are faced with the question whether to keep the car.

 

Well i assume that they are great but the Kelly BB on the car is like 3K and you can get an entire engine off of ebay for about $400. Just not sure if it is worth it. I guess if it is going to be a show car and you got the cash to burn....... Although you cant get them online there are plenty showing up in the You Pull it's of the world and most places don't know what they have. I go down and pull parts as soon as they come in. DOn't need them but maybe one day I will. I guess I will add manifolds to my list of stuff to grab. If you dont care about anything else in the engine bay this is like a 30 min job. don't even have to crawl under the car. A good metal saw to cut the pipe.....a few bolts on top and you are done.

 

If you unbolt the cat to the center pipe then remove the chrome cover and manifold to head nuts. You can then lift both manifolds and front pipe/ catalyst out as a unit. At this point I clamp the manifolds to a long 2 by 4 to keep the alignment flat. Then remove either the cracked manifold in question or have a very easy time with the four copper nuts. Reinstall as it came out. Thank you, Richardhw for the header ad find.

 

I just received My new manifolds from Arnstein. They are very very Sturdy and Nicely formed. I am feeling pretty lucky to put the cracked manifold issue behind me!.

They are expensive, although not completely unreasonable for a low volume set, and at least someone is making them and are still available.

I still think someone could make a stainless "PLOG" (power log) version for reasonable cost.

Maybe a little misunderstanding here.. Rusty meant the ones bought from me (see picture) which is much lower priced.

That is a good price, but beware of fitting issues as there is only one lambda boss fitted to one of them, and only suitable for RHD X300 due to clearance issue. Anyway, local buyers would have a definite advantage as trying on is not an option for distant buyers.

 

Thank you Richardhw for a very interesting post. If I didn't have two spare manifolds and no leaks at this time, And I'm not feed up with the condition at this time. Down the road, I will probably be saying, shoulda, coulda, woulda.

I bought the fabricated exhaust manifolds advertised on ebay. I intend to fit proper oxygen sensor bosses into both "banks" of 3 cylinders, and join the two branches together to a single pipe that will then connect to a standard underfloor system. This will either be with a slip fit or olive joint. I had a jig made to fit a standard set of manifolds and downpipes, so it should be possible to complete the modifications , knowing that the end result will fit directly into an X300. Anyone interested in the finishes assembly should contact me directly.

Andy, do they match your pipe dimensions? Are you thinking of making a run of extractors?

 

No, this pair of fabricated manifolds do not match my own pipe dimensions. I'm just planning on getting these parts to a point where they can be fitted directly onto a standard under floor catalyst. I will add two oxygen sensor bosses, so that the standard sensors can be fitted. I would just need to know whether the user required an olive or "slip fit joint", before finishing the modifications.
