I've been driving for about a month on a set of Yokohama Avid Envigor tires on my STR and I have been pleased with them. They seem to have decent grip for a 400hp car and ride well too. I'm impressed with how they perform in the rain as well. Its suppose to be a longer lasting tire than most out there. Not bad for about $750. Has anyone else had any experiences with this tire?

 

I have the Advan S4's on the rear and have been very pleased. They have some excellent grip. I had only got them cause they matched the tread of my Bridgestone on the front and the rear size was back ordered and I really needed tires but I've been happy enough that if the front go before the back (highly doubt they will) I will pick up the fronts in them.

 

The Yokohama Advan's are probably as good as you can do--dollar for dollar.

I also like the Goodyear Eagle GT's, however they don't make a 35 series x 18" for your rear. They're much, much better than the Bridgestone tires I had previously.

I've been using TreadDepot.com, which is the warehouse for Kauffman Tire out of Atlanta. Bought 11 tires from them this year, with very good service and prices.

 

Never used Yokohama, but I've heard good things. A friend used a set on his 300 awhile back. I currently have Michelin pilot a/s sport plus on my STR.

 

I've got the new Continental DW tires and so far so good. Car wants to just go when I give it gas vs spin the tires.

 

Very satisfied thus far with the new set of Dunlop SP Sport Signature tires I put on our S-Type in early January. Currently have a little over 3,000 miles on the tires. Comfortable ride, great handling, superb wet grip, and very affordable....

 

I have to say I can no longer recommend the Michelin tires. I'm on my 2nd set since I've had the car and I found two bubbles the other day while washing it. One on the front tire and one on the back. The bubble on the back is so bad I'm surprised the tire is still holding together (i'll have to take a pic, you'll be shocked the tire hasn't blown). And when I started thinking about it, when I replaced the old tires it was because they had a bubble on them as well.
So after two sets with the same bubble problem I won't be buying them anymore.

I guess I'm in the market for new tires as well.

 

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these tires.

I was at my alignment shop last week, and the owner had just received phone calls from two tire distributers saying they're increasing wholesale tire costs immediately. He said Kumho's prices have increased to the point where he's not going to sell them any longer--they're just mid line quality. He quit selling Michelin a long time ago due to their being $50-100 too much per tire--vs. quality.

My XK8 had brand new Pirelli P7's when I bought it, and I cannot say they're really worth the $. They don't really feel that good to me. With a 220/AA/A rating, they won't be around that many miles. There again, I don't drive the car every day.

 

For the price I don't think you can beat the Hanook V12 Evo. I had them on my Z and now on the Jag and I'm very satisfied.

 

I almost went with those. The only thing that worried me is that from looking at a lot of the forums, they seem to wear out faster (10-12k miles) on heavier cars. Please let me know what you find out though as I think those are a great tire at that price point.

 

I had the Bridgestone RE05A stock on the Z and the back tires were nearly bald at 10k and they were very expensive to replace. Here is what they looked like. The V12 is also soft but seems to wear much more slowly.

 

Here's the bubble I noticed on my Michelin the other day. It's about 2 inches long, how the tire hasn't blown is surprising.

 

I had my tyre blown up and I think that bubble (unseen) was the culprit for it . It was Michelin as well . Not to thrash the brand I still like Michelin

 

Wow phaelax, you must be living right not to have suffered a major blowout and accident caused by that tire. Glad you found it before it blew up in your face....

 

You can usually hear/feel the bubble before you see it.....unless you have the excellent but uncommon habit of making a close tire inspection complete with running hands all the way around the tread on a daily basis... Makes a flapping/flopping sound. I've had them on every brand of tire I ever owned EXCEPT Michelin. Knew they must do it too....but have never done it to me. Tires with "Good" stamped in sidewall have been notorious for it in my experience. Another tip is if handling goes to pot and car gets all squirrely and jumpy immediately after a rotation....look for the bubble.

(Anything over 30 mph on the one pictured will cause it to come apart in short order...at least on a heavy veh. like a WIndstar mini-van....20 mph...last a little while)

 

Considering I was doing 70mph on the highway earlier that day before finding the bubble I consider myself lucky. I need to drive my car daily, and since most places have to special order the size I found a used tire shop that had a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS. Very good tread life and only cost me $200 for both mounted. They tried to tell me they were run flats but I don't think so. The guy also showed me the rim with the bubble on it, had a slight dent. Most likely from the huge pothole I hit last week, practically the whole rear tire sunk into the ground. Maybe that's where my missing center cap went? I wanted new rims anyway.

 

Are these bubbles something to do with temps over there? Or driving style? I've never had a bubble of any sorts on any car Ive owned in the last 17 years here in the UK - that picture looks terrifying!

 

You may have a point. I've lived in and experienced these bubbles in KY, FL, and TX, 2 of the three being relatively "hot" climates. But I've also generally always lived 30+ min. of highway driving from work and now that I think about it...they've always come on the vehicles I've spent a fair amount of time commuting in rather than the ones left at home for the wife's 5-mile jaunts. As to driving style, I'm pretty much speed-limit +5 / -0 mph, otherwise mostly docile and courteous, rarely if ever causing tire squeals or needing to issue a steering/throttle command to straighten the rear end! My lovely wife, however, can be a terror to curbs, potholes, and road debris....smashing any and all in sight!

On the other hand, I put 100,000 miles on a set of Michelin LTX M/S on the Excursion (shared duty between the wife and I) with nary a problem.

 

Has anyone tried a set of Falkens? I had them on an Audi TT and had no complaints.
