Here's a problem I've had since I got the car, the shifter sits high at the back, and it seems pretty firmly secured, I believe it bolts directly to the body, any ideas what could be wrong here?
Thanks Grant, I'll have a look see when I'm next down there.
Been thinking that too Carl, could just be a dud cover, can it be removed by any chance? The PO has had his fingers in here though, so I'll maybe strip it all down and put it back, never know what I might find...
Nathan, your selector cover is broken.
As Grant says it should be riveted as seen below:
The whole mounting flange seems to be missing from your shifter. It looks like it's broken off at that first bend. That's not surprising as it's decades old plastic.
One thing for sure, you'll need to remove the panel to do anything about it.

Most common reason for that is that the "Cruise" switch needed access, and that is British Engineering at its prime.
There is a plastic slide type retainer under there, and unless that cover is raised at an obscene angle access is zero.
Once you have done it once it becomes simple, knowledge is golden.
The first time I wanted into there on the XJ-S it took me hours, and lots of funny words, and alcohol, before I relented and drilled out those rivets, and then all of 10 seconds to complete what I forgot I needed to go in there for.
Hi All,
The J-Gate on my 2000 convertible never worked at all. I opened the shifter uo to find one or two small broken plastic pieces.
I know I cant just get the disc, but may someone have one they don't want or need? Very willing to pay for it.
I couldn't find any info on possibly having one 3D printed.

I think you need this forum for the best advice on your car; https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/
although you might find some in the X308 forum as they share some of the mechanicals with your car.
