Default Key Fob issues

Hoping someone can help. I have read numerous threads, nothing that seems to match my specific situation.
The 2009 XKR would not start yesterday, dead car battery from the interior light being left on. Jump started the car, let it idle for a while etc. I had to put the key in the docking port in the centre console, just assumed it was due to the dead battery in the car. (Smart key not found message was displayed).Took the car out for a drive, everything seems fine.
The issue I am having, both remote fobs are no longer working, no remote lock/unlock or trunk release or headlamp on etc. When in the car, it says Smart Key not found. Putting either fob in the centre console allows the car to start.
Is it possible the fobs need reprogramming due to the dead car battery? Any suggestions? Both fobs, I have replaced the batteries - no luck....??

I'd try another set of batteries. I've noticed mine seldom works beyond 30' from the car even with new ones.

Guys, thanks for the replies. I did go and buy two new batteries for the fobs. Even though the batteries I put in the fob prior, were new, they were "no name". Bought Energizer lithiums and both remotes are now working. Just a case of coincidence that the car battery drained and over those two days the fob batteries were exhausted (at least I hope that is the case).
Case closed
Moral - spend $2 more per battery and buy some reputable brand. I have learned my lesson, hope this helps others.

Another trick with fobs is to hold a fob up to your forehead when you go to open or lock the car. Using your body as an antenna extends the range significantly, maybe up to 20-30ft.

You never stated....... your battery was dead, you jumped it then went for a drive..... No charging involved otherwise? You'd need to drive for probably eight uninterrupted hours to fully charge a car battery to 'full'.

The best deal is to disconnect the negative battery cable then actually CHARGE the battery with a GOOD charger of 10 amps or better, for at least 12 hours.

These cars need a good 12.6 volts or they will throw tissy-fits.

I'd guess that your car battery isn't quite up to the requirement yet.

This is good to know for those of us who have a convertible with Steve's (White XKR) remote control soft top kit.

Cee Jay, Thanks for the note on charging the car battery. I have the battery on a trickle charge, using the battery maintainer that I use over the winter. Such a pain to take the battery out to put on a full charger.

You don't have to REMOVE it at all, you can charge it using the Jump Posts inside the boot. It is best for the battery to have it disconnected on initial charge, but not required.
As long as you use 10 Amps or above, just hook the charger to those points and wait a day.
A "Trickle" charger will take literally a week to get the max charge, and then may eventually OVERcharge the battery as most Trickles don't ever shut off. You also say "maintainer", and those two are different animals.

But anyway, a REAL charger is what is required.

Cee Jay, Thanks for the replies and posting. First, I do have a battery maintainer, I use it every winter on the Jag when it is in storage. Canada is not "cat" friendly, hence she gets put away for a sleep.
I should have used the terminology "a battery maintainer" to clear the confusion, That said, they do deploy a low charge rate (essentially a type of trickle charge, with auto shutoff etc). Hence, my use of trickle charge vs full charge.

Here is the question, do I understand you correctly that the battery does not have to be disconnected to charge it with a full charge (10A) charger? I would feel uncomfortable hooking up a 10A + charger to the car without disconnecting the battery. I know initially, I stated that I don't want to remove the battery, which is a completely different subject to disconnecting it and leaving it in situ. Comments?

I hook straight to the Jump Posts to charge, it is SO much easier than a disconnect. Plus, it is required that way when using SDD with a 40+ amp supply. 10 amps won't do anything bad, but if the electronics are on in the car, some of the 10 amps will go to run those. Best to hook up the charger clamps then close the boot. Double-lock the car and come back many hours later and it'll most likely be full. Most chargers are automatic anyway, and aren't capable of over charge.

I'm pretty sure that the double-lock feature (that European X150 models have) was not available on North American X150 models. On North American models, the first press of the Smartkey locks everything and the second press activates the "sounder" that beeps once to confirm that the car is locked. If you don't hear a beep after the second press, your sounder is broken and should be replaced. The second press gives you audible confirmation that your car is already locked. Keep pressing it and it will keep beeping at you.

My Service Adviser explained this to me years ago when my sounder was replaced under warranty.

When you've got theJagwrangler.com's Remote Top Controller, you need to be careful with the button presses, or you may close your top, when you intended to leave it open (yup, I've done that).

I thought you had to press the headlight button first, before pressing either the lock button (to close the top) or the unlock button (to open the top).

There is an alternate method, just press the lock (or unlock, if wanting to open the top) button three times. Saves fumbling around in the pocket trying to locate the second key to press.
