Default Car not cranking with spare key

I have attempted to start my xkr 2001 with my spare key today. The car would not crank over and absolutely no response from the starter motor. The car works fine with my original key. I have not used the spare key for at least a year maybe longer.

Can anyone please advise as I only have one functional key?

Thanks.

Sounds like the car 'forgot' one of the keys configured to it?
I had that happen to a VW customer. He had the car 'towed' to me and the code was that the key was not configured.
I asked him to bring me another key.
He showed up and started the engine with the 'spare' key.
I told him to go to the dealer and have all the keys re-configured to the car.
He left angry and confused as to why the key stopped working?
$h!t happens!

YES.
The Jaguar software in WDS/IDS/SDD has the capability of configuring transponders.(stand-alone laptop)
The VW I worked on required a link to the site in Germany and a surety bond with expensive laptop and software.(I'm not paying that)
Simple procedure with the correct computer setup.

A couple of possibilities.

First, the computer doesn't recognize the transponder code.

Second (and HIGHLY unlikely), the chip isn't working.

It sounds like the car has forgotten the key (or the key has died somehow). You have two options, either relearn the keys to the car or get your working key cloned.

For the first option you need IDS and a Mongoose cable ("Program New Transponder" option) and add both keys back to the car - (the keys aren't programmed, the car is).

The alternative is to find a locksmith who can clone your key (it has a Megamos 48 transponder) - Timpsons might do it. This is going to be your easiest option probably as it doesn't involve doing anything to the car.

Thanks. I'll look into it and hopefully get it sorted soon.
