Default Tibbe key question

During my recent house move (not the whole house, just everything in it including the dog and cats), I managed to lose my 'main' set of car keys. I had two spares, or so I thought.
One spare worked fine, but the other one would unlock the doors, go into the ignition and start up all the auxiliaries, but when trying to start the engine, nothing!
Could this be a bad or incorrectly coded chip? I don't want to spend the minor fortune required to purchase/cut/encode a new spare key, so I am curious to know if the one I have can be salvaged?

Thanks,

Default Transponder

Sounds like the transponder in the key may have been damaged. I don't think I've ever heard of a car forgetting one. You could do the flip key conversion in the forum (search on it), buy a cheap key with a transponder (also on eBay) use the new transponder and have the key reintroduced to the car and save the cutting charges. But replacing the transponder in a regular key would just be ugly. (you have to cut it out and then the result would look like crap). You could also pay to have the key reintroduced to the car but if the transponder is toast you'll be out the money with nothing.

Thanks for the info. If I took the key to a Dealer, would they be able to read the code?

Don't know really, I've never watched them introduce a key to the car. I have a feeling they'll know if it doesn't work but might charge you anyway. Give them a call and ask, that won't cost anything.
