Default Would appreciate some opinions. Seriously….

Here is my dilemma. Purchased some wheels, and decided I needed to do a chrome delete for the finishing touch. Spoke with a few people and made my decision. Pretty cool guy. He decided he wanted to do paint vs a wrap. Said he has had more success with the look and longevity. I said fine. Knock yourself out.

Here is where it gets tricky. The PPG paint was having some kind of a reaction on every part he did. Kinda gave it a crackle effect. He finally got it all done after multiple attempts and calls to PPG, but he and I are unhappy with the results. It is honestly a 5-10 foot job in terms of quality.

Here is his solution, order wrap and redo the chrome delete. Replace the hood vents with either new black or carbon fiber look, my choice. Said just let me know the style. I guess there are a few options. In addition to that he said I’ll also thrown a full car wrap @ zero cost for material or labor. I love the color of the car. It is dark sapphire metallic. I think it would be a crime to cover it up, and told him so very respectfully. He said fine, I’ll do a full PPF or I’ll wrap your daughters car. She was with me since she to pick up my car. She has a Mercedes C300.

Last thing, he said he wanted to replace the front grill. Said something about it being kinda loose. Not sure why. Car has never been in an accident.he just said it bugged him. He is giving me a few options. One with the bar, one with no bar, and the other is the same as the other 2, but no logo and has carbon fiber trim.

I asked him, why would you do all this. You certainly don’t have to. Let’s just fix it and move on. No big deal. I wasn’t mad or hateful, actually very calm. Have to make sure I set an example for my little one. He said, I am a young company, I want stuff done the right way. This is not the right way, and I am going to make it good. I would also like to use your car to show what I can do if that is ok.

I know, it is my car my choice, but would appreciate any thoughts on the situation. What would you do and why??? Thank you in advance.

I would go with PPF and a Project 7 grill. The PPF will protect the paint on the front end especially and the rear quarters. F-Types have a nasty habit of throwing stones at themselves. The front tires kick them up and due to the rear quarters being wider than the front that is where they land. PPF is not cheap to have installed on the whole car.

Project 7 grills are much sought after. Plenty of posts on this forum about them. I believe the Project 7 grill would be the no bar option.

My personal opinion of course, but I don't see the appeal of carbon fiber as an esthetic; I actually think it's ugly. As a weight saving or strength adding choice I see it has it's advantages, but I would like others to chime in on why so many find it attractive.

On my '16 convertible I had the front hood and nose repainted and then ppf applied to the whole front end, updated the top vents to the R style and replaced the front bumper with a project 7 style grill. I hated that front bumper and I'm really happy with what I had done.

Gonna add to this. I think CF had its time as a fashion but by now many of us feel that it's a look that is best hidden and instead used for its functional properties. To me, the black looks sharper.

- Dont go CF
- Dont wrap sapphire blue
- Do project 7 grille (really elevate the look)
- Which wheels do you have?

I actually prefer CF. It's what I have on my grille and it hides dirt / bugs/ imperfections much better than piano black.

That blue is a unique color, and I wouldn't wrap it or it might lose its "pop" - and that is a nice offer to wrap your other car instead if you choose.

Get an e-pace grille - the Project 7 grilles can no longer be obtained.

Of course this is all personal preference - it's your car and you should do what you think will look best...

Thanks for the opinions. Really appreciate them. I really think I am set on the CF. I think it would really pull in the gunmetal and gloss black from the wheels. I also agree with getting the side skirts Done too. Probably going to sit down with him next week and iron out all the details.

It's going to look great - please post pics when done...

I don't live in Texas but if I did I would want to know who you are working with - pride of workmanship is a rare find these days!
