Default Problem with “Jaguar Remote” and data

Hello, I have a 2016 XF that I love and do not want to get rid of it. The problem I am having is the remote app and connectivity. I have not checked it in awhile until recently. Car mileage is correct along with the gas so there is some communication. The problem is that the car always shows running (driving) and a lot of the driving dates and to and from (gps) does not fully match. I went through all the reset procedures I cared to do such as reset the system through the overhead button next to the windscreen, shut down the tracking system on a pc and restarted it, shut it off on the app amd restarted it and also took the app off my iphone and deleted all the data and reinstalled the app. Now the app shows the vehicle at the last location I visited but does not show me coming home. The app still shows the vehicle running or driving even though its parked in the garage.

All I can think of that might be the problem is a 2g 3g network problem as the carriers delete the old systems. Its just a guess. I would pull the fuse to the system but the last time I got loose in the fuse block it took me days to figure out the right sequence to get things back to normal.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have had no issues with anything on the vehicle except for the basic stuff here and there. What I want to able to do is remote start the car now that the Houston weather is getting in full swing. I do not care so much about a log of trips but when the car says it is driving you can not access any of the features. It would also be nice to locate the car.

Thanks,

Ted

You nailed it. It’s almost certainly the 2G/3G sunset. Your car’s old modem can’t talk properly to today’s networks. That’s why data is partial and stuck on “driving.” No reset will fix it. Dealer might offer a 4G upgrade, but it’s pricey. For remote start in Houston heat, look into an aftermarket system that bypasses Jaguar’s junk app.

Thanks for the quick reply. The only reason I thought about that was when Houston hosted the superbowl a few years ago, Verizons sponsored it. A few days leading up to the game I cant get cell coverage. They reaimed the towers in rural areas toward Houston for more coverage. Lol.

No the older systems being phased out and there is no dealer level upgrade for it to work on the newer systems. If your TCU fails, it gets coded out so the car still runs without it and you lose all remote access functions. There are no replacement parts.

Yeah, that makes total sense. They absolutely do that steal coverage from rural areas to beef up the big event. Super annoying when you’re the one getting left with no signal.

RJ are you saying the control unit is going to fail? You are right about the dealer not being able to help but I did find a system that can be used to get the phone back in use with the vehicle. It’s expensive, which is kind of relative, and takes a hidden secured extra keyfob hidden deep in the dash.

I don’t know what to do at this point. It makes me really appreciate an older ‘75 vehicle I have (GM).

Thanks for the reply’s. Great forum

Not saying your TCU is going bad just because of this, but just noting that if the module does fail and needs to be replaced, there is no replacement option available. The supplier no longer builds them, JLR does not have another supplier, and we haven't used that generation of TCU in almost 10 years now so there's not enough demand to find another source it would seem. To avoid it bricking the car completely (the TCU needs to be present on the network to allow a start by the other modules), technical support can work with your dealer and code it out, so the car no longer looks for the TCU to start the car. This results in a complete loss of any remote functions, but is better than having a car that won't run.
