Brake Light Switch…again?
My 2000 XJ8 has 100,100 miles. For the past few months my brake lights remain on unless I use L foot to either push brake pedal slightly towards Accelerator pedal or to be 100% sure, lift pedal up slightly with L foot from outside edge.
I can only see if brake lights on or off at night by viewing the high brake lights reflection on rear window. Luckily this is no longer my daily driver.
Other symptoms are FSEM warning & loss of cruise control.
In December 2012 @ 64,773 miles, I had Jaguar dealer replace ($167.12 parts & labor)
At the time the only symptoms were FSEM warning & loss of cruise control
It fixed those issues.
Now I have the same symptoms + the brake lights staying on unless I manually lift the brake pedal.
I had seen a JF post showing how to easily adjust the brake switch with a needle nose pliers. But was for XK8.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-pedal-276946/
I got down in the driver footwell with a flashlight but was unable to find the switch!
I took it to an Indy shop to have then adjust the brake switch & got an estimate to replace it for $189.98 part (LNB6420BB) + 1 hr, labor @ $215.
Questions:
Do my current symptoms seem like that switch s/b adjusted rather than replaced?
If the switch needs to be replaced, is it common to have to replace it a 2nd time after only ~ 36K miles?
Is it really a 1 hour job?
Thanks,
Steve

Likely just needs the white plastic 'ratchet' mechanism adjusted.
I just push the pedal down with a telescoping hood prop rod and pry the plastic ratchet halves apart.
Let the pedal up slowly and DONE.
Do not pull the pedal up hard as that will set the adjustment to where it is NOW.(too far)
You might have to remove the front seat to have enough room to lay down in the correct position?

For your tonight's wire diagram chasing in your dreams
So looking at the brake switch..................notice how the brake switch ground goes through the ignition switch that can have the IG switch connector contaminated with fluids ( coffee ) Editing
May be easier to look at connector and connecter pin 5 on the car side as a good ground ( ground can get disturbed to not be 100 % ) than dive under for brake switch
Not to say this is how Jimmy fixed his ...........................
I found corrosion on pin 5 the black wire car frame ground.

No need to remove switch to get to IG connector , the car side half lifts straight up to unclip from panel to bring work out to you
If you do need to replace IG switch it is the same part # as the inline 6 X300 and other Jaguar models
No need for a new key as the IG switch removes from key barrel , there is a trick to removal , the slotted setscrew is a very wide stot and a small bladed screwdriver can spin in the wide slot cut
You will drop the 2 setscrews on floor so white rag to catch and see vs. carpet
