Where does the speedometer on a 1994 XJ40 get it signal from?
Is it one or more of the wheel sensors on the car?
And if the speedometer was not getting a signal would that affect the shifting of the transmission (into OD for instance) ?

On the '93-'94 cars the speedometer signal comes from one or more wheel speed sensors but via the ABS Module mounted above the left rear wheel well near the fuel filler pipe. If I recall correctly, the primary signal is either the rear right or rear left ABS wheel speed sensor. Which one varies depending on the model of Jaguar and I can never keep them straight.

And yes, the vehicle speed signal is critical to orchestrating proper gearshifts between the ECM and TCM, so if you have no speedo you will likely also have transmission issues.

Hi Steve, Just today I got done with replacing the rear end in my Moneyfunnel. All went well, except that at first I had an ABS light and speedo only over 40 MPH. The culprit was the left wheel speed sensor not being installed all the way into is spot. A couple of taps and bolt tightened and all is good.
