1988 XJ6’s door question
Newbie here, I have two 1988 XJ6’s with the usual door handle problems. My question is, can brake cleaner be used to clean the door latch mechanism, then it’s white lithium grease to lube? One has 1 working door, the other has one going bad. Newer one has 86,000 miles on it from California. Thanks ahead for your thoughts. 1988 Putter
I would not use brake clean with the latch in the car. On the bench, and with whatever rubber removed , yes I would. If you are concerned about the plastic parts give a tiny squirt and see what happens first. Your next problem would be getting grease back into all the little crannies.
Brake cleaner is to remove grease/ oil.
You want to add lubrication, not take it away.
Just use the spray white grease. Work the system to move it around. Adjust the latch rod to the handle as required to make it function smoothly.
