Glen Turret Distillery meet Crieff Sun June 4th details

Well, I resisted the temptation these past few months but gave in today, the meet is on, Sunday 4th June
The ultimate venue is Glen Turret distillery in Crieff, from approx. 09.45am onwards on the day. We will be gathering first at Stirling services
located at J9 just off the M9 from approx. 08.30am.
For logistical reasons it may be more suitable for those coming from the North to meet direct at the Distillery.

We should have a nice Jaguar convoy of perhaps 50-60 cars plus leaving the services promptly at 09.00am, the run to Glen Turret will take approx 45 minutes.
The plan will be to hand out "welcome packs" as far as is possible at the services. These will contain various Jaguar literature, sponsors details, keyrings, pens, name badges and dashboard information sheets for you and your vehicle.

It's a personal choice but I would ask that you use the name badges for easy recognition on the day. It will help others to instantly know you and your car and more likely your forum username, helping the day to go more smoothly.
There will also be a rough Itinerary of the day with approximate timings, these won't necessarily be hard n fast but should give an idea of how the day will go.

The Itinerary will be approximately as follows
08.30am Gather at Stirling services initial meet point. As far as is possible, welcome packs will be handed out here.
09.00am - Leave in convoy for the run to Glen Turret distillery. Morrisons Jaguar will already be there and set up with F Type and possibly XJ.
09.50am - 10.00am Arrive at distillery and park, the forum banner will be set up and available for signing during the day, sharpies provided.
10.00am - 11.00am - Introduce the Morrisons Jaguar crew. Wild Thyme have kindly put on bacon rolls for us from approx 10am onwards, so time for a coffee / roll and socialising.
11.00am - Announce raffle prizes with a brief chat about each sponsor. There are some amazing prizes on offer, raffle tickets will be £1 each will proceeds going into a FINAL raffle for cash prizes to be won. Everyone who bought a ticket will be included in this final draw
11.15am - 12.00pm collect raffle prize entries
12.15pm - 1.00pm raffle draws held and prizes given
1.00pm - 2.00pm - General socialising, pictures and conversation with a final group shot of everyone with the signed forum banner, something like this.....

2.00pm - leave for forum drive event. We'll leave the distillery and take a right along the A85, through Comrie and St Fillans to Lochearnheard, take a left onto the A84 and head down through Strathyre and Callander back towards Stirling. Anyone left at this point will be welcome to congregate once more at Stirling services to chat and round off the day.
4.00pm - 5.00pm Finish

Prize fund now at £2555.00 worth of prizes with more cash prizes to be added on the day!!
Assuming raffle tickets go as last year there could be another £1000 to add to that making £3555.00 total

Only with the help of these generous sponsors can we make this a FREE day for all concerned, The only cost involved is getting there and back.
Please help our sponsors to help you in future by using them when and where possible.

Ready for the Turret! (And this way you'll know I cleaned and polished it before the inevitable rain!)

Lookin good Giles, love that car
Remember put me on the shortlist when you come to sell it

I've been doing my "anti rain dance" and am thoroughly soaked, as long as tomorrow is fairly dry I'll be happy

See you tomorrow

Well so much for a bit of a down day in preparation for tomorrow lol.

Got up around 11am ( went to bed at around 4am ) and thought about adding another layer to the XJ......Well that didn't happen!
Checked the weather forecast for tomorrow and its supposed to be "fairly" dry with some light showers, we'll see I guess.

Caught up with a few things re the forum meet and then the rain came down with a vengeance, BIG TIME.
Then there were 3 or 4 call offs for tomorrow which I adjusted things for, then had another 2 add ins to deal with too, so did that.

Jamie called in after work, he's dying to go but cannot get shift changed ( been trying for weeks )
He left his X type with me, after I dropped him off at his 2nd job as I said i would clean it. The situation being, there was one other guy who may do a swap, or my SIL Billy would bring it tomorrow.....which is the case as it happens.

Of course its became sick these last few days, the rear suspension has started groaning ( probably the wishbone bushes ( but cannot deal with it at the moment ) so close your ears all.....lol

Peter has been having issues with his, just M.O.T'd around a week ago, failed on ABS sensor and corroded brake pipes....all fixed, or is it?
The brakes are poorish, and juddery, ABS style as it kicks in, then the ABS light comes ON and she brakes normally.
We tried a few places today to get it resolved at short notice, but to no avail, so that's that.
Meanwhile it poured down most of the day, thunder / lightning and heavy showers.

Then Connor comes over, X type all serviced a week or so ago, new pads all round and shining like a shilling, so at least one of them is good lol

I dried my XJ off a couple of times but have given up, something to deal with in the early hours, probably around 6am
All welcome bags have been loaded into the cars and everything good to go fro tomorrow early doors. Tress has gone off to nightshift but will be back bright eyed and bushy tailed around 7.30am with a good 20 mins to relax and chill before we rush off to be at the services around 8.15am

Alec and Simon are coming here in the morning for some last minute fettling and maybe a cuppa after their long drive, before we set off

Think I'll treat myself to a Chinese and a beer or two before relaxing and grabbing a couple of hours of sleep prior to the big day.

Hope your day has been easier than mine lol
Look forward to seeing you all in around 11 hours or so

Jim

Whoaaaah there Norri

Just last week there were reports of possible Alien sightings in and around Glasgow / Central belt. People were calling in and reporting a strange Orange planet like Orb in the sky.............turns out it was the SUN

Today??
Not so much, clouds / overcast / drizzle / sunny / thunderstorms with some serious hail thrown in, a little more sun and then a lot more rain

Not holding out too much hope for a good day tomorrow. I'd take it as reasonably dry right now if I could get that.

Cheers
Jim

Hi all, well dunno about you but I had agreat day think most of you did too.

I’d just like to once again say amassive thank you to ALL our sponsors, each and every one of them really helped to make the day what is was, and totally free for all of us.
I ask that you please bear this in mind and give them the opportunity to quote for your motoring needs as and when required.

I also want to thank my amazing wife who was chirpy and cheerful as always, straight off the nightshift with no sleep, my sons Connor and Peter, SIL Billy and grandson Lewis for all their help on the day. Rob Coop and Alec Escolme as always, Tracy And Cameron, Jim Jamieson, Terri and others who all did their bit, apologies if I've missed anyone, soo tired.

We had a wee S.O.S on the Morrisons XJand the police were called lol, but we sorted it, they took all my details so we’ll wait n see on that one!!

The GlenTurret staff were awesome asalways and the coffee / bacon rolls came off the production line, no problem, the sun even came out for most of the day and the rain showers weren’t too awful or prevalent.

Most of all I’d like to say a massive "thank you" to each and every one of who turned up on the day, some of you coming from fair distances and still showing up on the day, even though the weather was destined to be questionable at best. YOU were all fantastic and such a nice group of friendly and welcoming people to boot.

See Facebook post courtesy of Terribelow….
Facebook Post

I will when I can get as many pics /videos etc of the day uploaded to the various forums / FB etc as and when I can, I promise.

Dunno bout the rest of you, but think the wife n I grabbed a couple of hours sleep on the couch after a wee cheeky fish supper, so tired lol

All my best, Jim

Here's a quick video put together with some pics of the day. These are just a few quick ones taken from my phone and not the best quality, but may give a flavour of the day

I'll try and get something much better pout together over the coming days to finalise this event

Crieff Sunday 04th June 2017
Well after around 3 months intensive planning, the day was upon us. In all honesty with the terribleweather on Saturday and Sunday looking uncertain I wasn’t having good thoughts.
I was expecting a raft of call offs, that said apart from a few with family emergencies or work commitments etc I needn’t have worried, you’re all die hard enthusiasts for sure.
Having had around 2 hours sleep I was up and at it around 6am. Please spare a thought for Mrs C though as she came directly off nightshift with NO sleep, she’s a wee trooper, albeit bribed with a Jaguar poloshirt and a whistle…..that damn whistle!
I made a post or two on the various forums / FB pages etc and set about getting ready. Connor was up, SIL Billy and grandson Lewis on their way and Peter to arrive shortly too, Tress arrived home at 07.40am with strict instructions she had 10 minutes which became 20 lol

Alec Escolme and Simon Saunders had travelled up from way down south and so popped in for a coffee and to join a mini Jaguar convoy to the services.
We arrived at the services around 08.15 am and there were already several members there, more filtering in every minute or so. At this point we organised the “welcome packs” from SNG Barratt and the various sponsors with name badges and dashboard info sheets etc included.

We even managed a latte and time for a little banter as we prepared for the convoy to the Distillery.

I had a call from Jim Jamieson advising status at Crieff as he was already there, along with another 30 or so texts / updates etc. Tress blew the whistle to signal time to go ( this was to be a theme on the day!! ) and off we went.

Terri arranged to video the exit from the services and we hope to have more on that later!
Convoyed to Crieff, what a sight that must have been and arrived at 09.45am approx.... so all good. Morrison’s Jaguar had already dropped off the XJ and the F type was to follow some 10 mins or so later, thank you Derek Cartner of Morrison’s.
The forum banner was put up and we also helped to put up some Morrison signage too, time for a cigarette break and some more craic lol.

Shortly after I asked for everyone to gather ( Tress blew the whistle AGAIN ) and I had a quick chat to advise of the itinerary, the raffle prizes etc and then we all went inside and consumed many bacon rolls /latte’s etc etc. The Glen Turret staff did very well to accommodate such a large group first thing I thought!
A little chat / craic and some mingling later it was time to organise the prize raffles. Unfortunately, at this point the rain came down, but we managed to organise it inside and it turned out probably better in the end.
Myself, Tress, Billy, Conor and Peter, assisted by Rob Coop as always, Ross Craig. Emz, Tracy Mitchell, Cameron McFarlane and Terri started selling the raffle tickets as the members wandered through choosing their preferred prizes.

I’m sure I sold the most tickets again, or perhaps it was Tress as the F type was very popular once again.
After we had finished it was time for all of us to get our own tickets. Tress seemed a little concerned that we had spent £110 on tickets but I told her I wanted the F type again, she also went for some of thecash prizes, I assured her we would win something…..oops!!
I’ll pay for that later……….
It must have been around 12.15 and the natives were getting restless so time for the draw shortly. First though we had to cash up, we raised a little over £1000 in ticket sales, and so, as promised we split the cash into 3 “booby” prizes if you will, 3rd prize £207.00. 2ndprize £300.00 and 1st prize of £500.00
Time for the draw…….
We gathered everyone together outside, as the rain had stopped, Tress blew that damn whistle AGAIN and everyone duly congregated. Rob Coop helped with the draw once more and we began the process, see results below…..
1. SNG Barratt - Jaguar umbrella and £25 gift voucher won bymember The Zig (Gary Bray)
2. Prestige Jaguar 1 - £120 service gift voucher won by member EMZ (Emma Cuthbertson)
3. Mr Tint 1 - £120 window tinting voucher won by member Jim M (Jim Morrison)
4. Prestige Jaguar 2 £120 service gift voucher won by member Tracy Mitchell
5. Mr Tint 2 - £120 window tinting voucher won by member Jim Tierney
6. The JagWrangler - $100 gift voucher won by member Tommac (Tom Dodson)
7.Mackies Transmissions £300 transmission service voucher won by member John Sweeney
8. Goodman Metalworks £200 cash won by member Ian Theakes
9. Enfield FSEG £250 cash won by member CeeCee96 (Connor Campbell)
10.Nokian
Tyres full set of tyres won by member Neil McDonald
11. Morrisons Jaguar F Type weekend won by member Caldean (Keith Thomson)

Prize raffles collected a little over £1000
This was all handed back to the participants in the form of 3 CASH prizes, meaning if you bought a ticket for any 1 item, you automatically were entered into the 3 Cash draws

3rd prize £207.00 won by member AndyLandy (Andrew Jarvis)
2nd prize £300.00 won by member Bob T
1st prize £500.00 won by member Simon S type reg (Simon Forster)

A lot of happy winners out there, except Tress……I’ll pay for that later!!

It was nice to see so many weel kent faces on the day, too many to mention, as well as quite a few new ones too, a good mix all round
Ian from Prestige was with us once again, he’s getting to be a veteran and Dougie made an appearance with Andrea too which was nice to see.
In fact they’re both so committed that Dougie bought raffle tickets for his own prize (lol) and Ian bought window tint tickets which he had no use for AND then put them back for someone else to win…..Superb!
Highlights of the day?
The distillery cat jumping all over the visiting cats for the day, not mine though as she knew better.
Also, someone had been checking out the new XJ and had pressed the S.O.S. button, Peter collared me as I left the gents to advise that the police were on the car’s S.O.S system and needed to speak to the owner/someone in charge…..namely me lol
A quick conversation giving them my name, date of birth, mobile contact details, home address and we were all good………or, were we?
The police arrived a short while later just to confirm, here’s hoping I’m not in trouble!
Lowlights of the day?
Not wining anything, Tress will speak to me later!
The rain came and went a few times, but the sun did too, really not a bad day all round weather wise, could’ve been so much worse.
We had time for a little more catching up before Morrison’s arrived to take ownership of their vehicles and we arranged to leave around 2pm for the lochs n glens drive portion of the day, probably around 20+ cars left at this point. Terri as always left to video the exit, hopefully more on this later.
We left the distillery and drove through St Fillans and along the loch side before heading down through Strathyre and into Callander and eventually back to Stirling services.

Davy Kerner kindly took Mrs C on a run in the F type lol. Tress is NOT a speed freak so well done Davy!
Time for another latte and a cigarette or two, had a chat and a laugh here or there and left around 5pm to head home, tired, but pleased the day went well.
Don’t know about the rest of you, but Tress and I caught up with our daughter and granddaughters for a wee while, then went for a fish super, got home, kicked off the shoes and got comfortable before falling asleep on the couch all tuckered out.
Lastly, thanks again to one and all, the sponsors and all my family and forum members who helped on the day, and to everyone for coming and hopefully enjoying the day. Don’t know if I’ll be doing it next year or not, we’ll see.

That said there may be something coming up in the next several weeks, probably more Lake district area, so watch this space.
Thanks
Jim

It sounds like an incredible day, and thankfully the weather not too bad for you - I was wondering how it was going to be on the day for you guys.. it looks like the day went really well there, and I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures - Well done Jim! Of course this does beg the question about next year :-)
