2.5 V6 belt tensioner
Does anyone know if you can replace just the pulley on the tensioner for the main belt or do you have to buy a complete tensioner? I have a whirring noise when cold which I suspect is one of the idler pulleys, I have to investigate when the rain stops!
i also answered this in the other post you made
the entire tensioner is quite cheap from what i remember and replacing the unit will be a whole lot easier and better for the car.
both the tensioner or the pulley can go bad.
i found that a 3/8" ratchet was too "tall" to fit between the tensioner and whats in front of it.
what i did was take an old ratchet and using an angle grinder i ground off approx half of the "square"
it was then able to slide into the tensioners square hole.

Thanks for your informative reply, I replaced the whole tensioner about 8 yrs ago and the car hasn’t done a lot of mileage as its my weekend car. I started it yesterday and typically none of the 3 pulleys made a noise so I still don’t know which one was whining the other day. I may just replace all 3.
