Default Finding the reversing light wire on 1996 X300

Hi all.
Thought I would post up some findings from my fitting of an aftermarket rear parking sensor kit and in particular, the reversing wire that needs to be connected to the unit.

Firstly, most of my searching for help on this resulted in the fact that the circuits in the rear light cluster were all permanently positive and the selection of reverse made that circuit negative, meaning the installation of a relay to change it back again to enable the reversing sensor unit to operate.
Having taken this as gospel, I purchased the required relay, wiring, etc and went to fit it.

As it turned out, had I bothered to check myself previously, I could have save myself the trouble as once tested with a multimeter, the selection of reverse already gives a positive outcome!

The photos attached show the wire in question for my 1996 3.2 XJ6 X300. It is marked with a piece of insulation tape but is the wire between the solid black and blue.
It is a case of simply connecting into this wire and the required 'firing up' takes place on selecting reverse gear without any extras.

I hope this helps anyone who needs to find this wire for anything that needs power from targeting the reverse selection.

Are you determined this information should not be seen by anyone outside the UK & Eire?

Technical posts, both questions and solutions, should go in the relevant model forum so EVERYONE sees them.

Graham, it is my ignorance of the forum workings rather than trying to 'shield' any information.
I thought I had put it in the X300 category and didn't realise it was region specific.
If of use, please move it to where you deem fit.

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

I've copied it to X300 forum:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...6-x300-200899/

Left the original with my post and your reply here.

You are certainly not alone in putting TECHNICAL posts in the REGION forum. This has been increasing across all Region forums recently. It's prompted me to put an announcement at the top of all the Regions.

Thanks Graham.

Just looked and the pics don't seem to have copied. Do I need to put them up manually?

Rob,

I didn't see you'd posted them as attachments instead of embedding in the body of the post. I've copied them.
