Default Fair Lakes, 05/19/13

Naturally, I spent most of my time with the Jaguars & Jaguar people today, but there was still the 'normal' Cars & Coffee event going on. It was smaller than usual, since weather was questionable, and because the annual "MoparPalooza" over at Koons pulled away all the Chrysler products.
Here are a few pictures of "our sideshow". At this time of year, we usually have 100 cars or so.

It was a lot of fun, guys! I'll try to start going to the regular cars and coffee events more regularly.

Hahaha, thanks for the ambush photo! Great pictures except for that one. . It was great meeting fellow Jaguar owners and forum members! Thanks for organizing this, Bob!

Thanks for putting this together Bob. Good times.

Also nice of Rosenthal Jaguar to bring out the F-type and let us "test drive" around the block.

Default Jaguar Details

A couple of details I noticed today...

A truly beautiful group of cars today.. exemplified to me the old Jaguar catchphrase -

Grace, pace & space!

Thanks to Bob for organizing this event. If the weather had been a little better I am sure we would have a lot more folks!

Nice to see all the fine Jaguars!

Thanks to Tysons for sending the F out for all of us to see!

Both the wife and I enjoyed the morning with our fellow Jaguar owners. I had washed my car for the event but ran into several rain showers along Rt81 & Rt66. It was nice of Rosenthal Jaguar to provide the F-Type for all to see and drive. It seems to get better every year! I am up for another any time!

Bob you did a great job pulling this together again and hope to see you again at the next event.

Thumbs up

Thank you Bob for making this a memorable and fun event despite the threatening weather.

Jane and I both enjoyed seeing old and new friends today as well as the nice turn out of Jags. Being among the first to experience the F-type up close was also an unexpected treat.

It looks to have been a great event.

I wish that I could have attended.

Still I had exactly the same weather.

Thanks Bob for organizing things.

I got it up to about 15 miles an hour. So I don't know if my review is going to be much good!

Definitely I like the interior. Exterior-wise, it looks really nice. However, it lacks the long and low look of the XKR, probably because the hood is much shorter and the car is much more compact overall.

They brought the V6 and in the parking lot, it seemed sorta gutless compared to my XKR. But who knows what it's like above 15 mph!?

Default F-Type Review

Glad you asked, Ed.

First, the looks. It looked good - handsome, if not beautiful to my eyes. Much of this was probably down to the color - I found the Indigo Blue Metallic to be a little tame. I much preferred the 'Firesand' orange metallic model that they had at the Jaguar Alive driving event. Bobert & I saw a white and a black F-Type at the Chantilly dealer. I liked the white much better, especially with the red interior. Then again, I love my Emerald Fire XK so much, I'd bet the BRG Metallic looks great. I also like that they offer a choice for the top color.

Like Alan, I did not thrash the car when I drove it, but I did have the advantage of driving it very early, when no one was around. This was the base V6 supercharged model - 340hp, claimed 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. I have no doubt the claim is true. Acceleration is brisk, and handling was tight. Steering was good, and body control seemed very good. Brakes were quite strong. (By way of comparison, I have been driving my Lotus Elise for 6 years, and I don't compliment a car's handling easily.) Oh, and the exhaust sounded very nice - not overly loud, but nicely "rorty".

From reading the literature, and especially based on standard equipment and available options, it looks like the 'middle' model, the F-Type S, is the one to get. This bumps the power up to 380hp, drops 0-60 to 4.8 seconds, has active exhaust, and the flat-bottomed steering wheel. While the V8 reportedly sounds great, I don't like the idea of the extra weight in the nose of the car - it's got to affect the balance.

It's an exciting time for Jaguar, with an all-new model line. I can't wait to comparison drive the three models!

I'm anxious to hear what others thought. The key comparison seems to me to be - how is it compared to a Boxster?

I think Salsa Red is a color that suits newer Jaguar very well.

That's the color I'd pick!

Nancy and I did an extendeed test drive of a base 6-cylinder model. My review:

WOW.

That being said, if at all possible, you MUST take one on an extended drive. It's a fantastic car. Every. Single. Model.
