Default New XJS owner might be facing the snow this year...

If I'm forced to spend a couple snowy days on the road with my new acquisition, what should I expect? Standard RWD winter performance, or are there behaviors I should be on the lookout for?

I found that with my 94, I need to put on winter tires. It slid all over the place with the tires it came with.

Ground clearance will likely be the biggest problem. You only have 6". Getting hung up is the problem.

Other than that I recall my XJS behaving well in the snow ...but where I am we seldom get more than 5"-6" at a time

Cheers

Not sure I can speak for everyone but I have had great control and traction, in fact I some times call her " The Snowcat" . Once got trap at worked when about 8" fell and I still made it home, be safe be smart buy good tires I bet you'll be just fine, after all your driving snowcat!

Thanks for the replies. I knew ground clearance was going to be my enemy, but six inches might be generous in my case. My cat seems to ride a little lower than that... I'll eventually break down and take it to a shop to have a few things looked over (this included,) but that will take a tremendous force of will on my part. I'm just having too much fun driving the blasted thing!

I have heard that they handle surprisingly well in the winter from another source, but cat litter in the trunk (fittingly) and snow tires are definitely on the menu.

"Snowcat." I like it. I'm more concerned about being mistaken for a snowbank than anything. Nimbus white might not be the whitest white that ever did white, but I'm sure it'll make for frustratingly effective winter camo nevertheless. I have a feeling that the ninja paintjob will be more irritating than the complete ability to keep it clean.

They've forecasted a "mild winter," but in Minnesota that probably just means 5'11" snowbanks instead of 6' snowbanks... I'll flip a coin to determine whether I just buy 500 bucks worth of winter beater or a public transit pass.

Default tires make a big difference

I tend to stick with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires for traction in the winter with my high performance vehicles
