Portland service options?
My 2005 XKR has been resting for a few years (started and driven a few blocks regularly though) and I'm hoping to get some miles in this summer. Needs tires (BBS Detroit 20"), and probably brakes (might do those myself). The check engine light is on too. I stopped by a dealer in Reno when I drove it home from Arizona and they said the only problem they could find was a very slight air leak around the gas tank cap. They said it didn't need to be addressed but would likely cause the check engine light to come on again eventually. I trust that's all it is and it I can just have it reset but no DEQ till I can. I'll post these issues in the appropriate forum as well, but for now...
Any recommendations for local service? I'm on the west side and near the dealer but I'd prefer an independent.
THANKS!
Jeff

Hey Jeff, I'm just a few minutes down the road from the dealer too. I'm surprised by how much they want for basic service (even more than the maintenance for BMW 5 series) and they won't provide a loaner unless you bought from them. Anyways, the last few times for service I've taken my XF to Kings Cross in Vancouver. There used to be great option downtown that I would have preferred (taxes + distance) but they closed permanently at the beginning of the year. However, even after taxes, I was coming out price ahead at Kings Cross compared to the dealer. They have also been very pleasant to work with - just wish they were located this side of the river.
This isn't applicable to headliner replacement but for mechanical work, I'm still looking.
Last year I suddenly had no AC, a check engine light and the car was running super rich and reeked of fuel. I needed to get it through DEQ so I called Everett Street Autoworks. They come up when you search Jaguar service in Portland and they said they had a Jag trained mechanic (not sure about that). They tracked down an AC leak but said it required a lot of labor to remove parts for access so it was too expensive ($1350) for me to address at the time, so that still needs to be done before it gets hot again. They also checked out some suspensions noises which I didn't have them fix. They did an oil change and replaced the oxygen sensors which resolved the main problems I took the car in for. It passed DEQ and has been running great since. I need to address the suspension and AC in the next couple weeks and I'm trying to decide if I want to go back to Everett Street, hassle with getting back and forth from Kings Cross or risk an AC shop in town and do the suspension myself. I was satisfied with Everett Street but not sure about their actual Jaguar experience.
