Default Independent Jag mechanic in North Austin?

Greetings,

I actually asked this question in my other thread "relocating to Austin". But thought the specific thread related to my question would bring more results... I need recommendation for a mechanic in North Austin.

Thanks in advance !

Default Maybe

I can't really vouch for anyplace because since my car is still under warranty so far I've only used the dealership, but there is a mechanic that works at this Kwik Kar that used to own his own shop that specialized in Jags.

Austin Kwik Kar - Home

I only got inspections there, so I don't really know what it's like to do business with him, but when I drove up in my XF the other guys called him over, 'hey we got a Jaguar here'. I have a fair amount of mechanical knowledge, and I can say after chatting with him for a while that he knows what he's talking about. He apparently sold his business and took a paycheck to reduce his stress level. He and his wife both drive older Jaguars.

Before going there, you might call and ask to talk to their Jaguar guy, make sure he still works there. Also, he wasn't shy about talking about the other Jaguar-specialist shops around town, so he might be a good resource even if you don't trust Kwik Kar.

"....Joe has over 30 years of experience and is a ASEMaster Technician. Joe is also a Pro Euro Coupe League Driver who as youprobably heard specializes in European Models...."

Recommend JagTechs on 35 North near Howard Lane.

Agree about JagTechs. Head mechanic used to be head mechanic at Charles Maund Jaguar (local dealer now out of Jaguar business). I responded in your other thread as well.

Another tick for Jagtechs. I just had my 06 XJ8L in for some work -- leaking transmission pan, and recurring vehicle low problem and an oil change. Had it back in two days, would have been one but for limited ability on my part to get there (the only downside is its location on NI35). Had a decent chat with Dan about the recurring problem and we have a plan, everything else was handled easily, some of it warranty work too.

Have had the car for three years, never liked the experience at the local dealer and have tried two other shops before finding Dan -- he's getting my car anytime it needs work from now on. He knows and loves Jags so you'll feel you are in safe hands and not getting gouged.

I do all the work on my jaguars by myself, so I haven't paid too much attention to shops that work on them. I believe there are at least 5 shops spread around our metro area that work on them.

If you move to the Austin area, 2.8 million other people and I say hello, and welcome to what has become the 4th most traffic congested area in the good ole USA! But, another Jaguar is always welcome. It helps offset the influx of Ferrari's, Maseratis, Aston Martins. Teslas and way too many BMWs and Mercedes!
Not too many years ago, you could drive your Jaguar like a Jaguar should be driven. These days, you spend all your time sitting in traffic.

Just had my front bushings replaced at JagTechs. Car drives like new, except for my bent wheels. ;-)

I've been going to the dealership even though my jag is out of warranty. I took it in last week and picked it right back up when my repairs were going to be $5,000. I'm currently ordering the parts myself and having my mechanic do the work. I live in San Marcos and will consider Jagtechs if my mechanic can't handle the work.
