Default Anyone know why no maintenance schedules in owner's manual?

A printed owner's manual was in the glove box of the 2003 XK8 convertible I purchased on Sunday. The manual, entitled "The XK range - Driver's Handbook" is pretty similar to the owner's manuals for other cars I've owned in the past, except for the fact that it lacks maintenance schedules. Does anyone know why the manufacturer didn't include the maintenance schedules in the owner's manual that came with the car when it was purchased new?

I have a separate manual titled Vehicle Care with my '97.

The vehicle literature is extensive and split into a number of handbooks. When your XK8 was handed over to the original owner, it had a set of handbooks and supporting literature known as the VEHICLE LITERATURE PACK. Over the years, some or even all of this may have been lost.

The VEHICLE LITERATURE PACK contents vary according to market and vehicle specification. The US market pack is as follows:

1. Driver's Literature (brown or green folder in the glovebox)
1. Driver's Handbook
2. Quick Reference Guide
3. Security System
4. Sound System
5. Telephone (when fitted)

2. Vehicle Care Literature (black folder secured with an elastic strap on the side of the luggage compartment trim)
1. Vehicle Care Handbook
2. Passport to Service (includes Maintenance Schedule, Service Record & Warranty information)
3. Navigation System (when fitted)

It appears the PO only handed over one of these handbooks to you.

Hi Graham,
Thanks much for the timely info! As you pointed out, I didn't receive the full Monty of literature which was provided to the original owner of my XK8. So, the mystery of the missing maintenance schedules has been solved! As Bill Burrud once said, "May all your adventures be happy ones!"

Hi MRomanic, thank you for that! Apparently, I didn't receive the full complement of literature which was provided to the original (first) owner of my car. Fortunately, Graham provided me with a link to the vehicle care manual containing the periodic maintenance schedule. So, problem solved, and now I'm good to go!
All the best,
Dean
