I have a friend that has an S-type like I do, but that is probably not as important He got a new set of tires and after only 350 miles of driving got a nail in them and the tire went flat in his driveway/garage. So three was no damage from driving. He had a shop put the combo patch/plug in and it seems fine. My only question, is while this is in the tread does it appear too close to side? It is a touch more than an inch away. My only thinking is that perhaps some of the patch adherence might be slightly on the flex part of the shoulder. I do know that for some spots close to the shoulder flex points they now have a flexible patch that works very well.
I assume the worst that would happen is through normal driving the patch adherence to the outside might weaken and he would ave a leaky tire and lose air and know something is wrong. With the patch/plug, it does not appear he is going to have a blowout at some critical moment.
The tires are consider "performance tires" from Goodrich. (he likes a stiffer ride than I do)
so I guess they have better built shoulders an sidewalls.
Opinions please and I thank you in advance,
Tom in Dallas/Plano
