Tyre choices and sizes
What's this? A new empty forum about wheels and tyres.
Good idea, we seem to have assorted posts all over the place on this subject so grouping them together might not be such a bad idea.
My question is what tyre are you running on standard factory rims?
Brand,
Size,
Wear characteristics,
Road holding, in different conditions,
Noise,
Price.
Be good if we could easily compare information accross the board and hopefully help people to make an informed choice.
All the best

1976 XJ12L
Brand - Michelin
Size - 205/70 R-15
Wear characteristics - have no idea what you mean
Road holding - great in all conditions. They stick to the road like glue even when icy or rainy
Noise - can't hear squat over the engine and exhaust...lol
Price - Michelins are known to be more expensive than most tires. To me, if I can afford them, I'll get them over anything.

These were rated 2nd only to the Michelin Pilot Sport 2. Click for article.

I'm in the market to purchase the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO this Friday. Discount has a Black Friday sale where they are picking up the tax on four new tires, plus Hankook is offering a $50.00 rebate if you buy before the end of the month.
Size: 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 for a set of chrome Zeus wheels.
h20boy if you have any pics of the sidewall could you post them or send them through pm.

NVMYJAG,
I got the sumitomos htr zII from the rack, 129.99 for rears, and 107 for the fronts for the STR. Not a bad deal at all and they are whisper quiet and handle awesome. Wear so far is unnoticable with 3000 miles on them

I'm damned lucky that the 235/60-15 Michelins on my '93 are like new. They're more rare than rocking horse poo.
When the Pirelli P600 need replacing on the '90, I'm going to be in a world of hurt. I'd rather not replace with the Pirellis, but thats the ONLY V rated 235/60-15 that I can find. Don't want to replace the chrome lattice rims, so unless somebody comes out with a new tire, it looks like it's going to have to be 225/60-15 Michelins (they're bottom of the line of performance tires)

2005 S-Type 3.0 purchased at just over 18,000 miles on December 19, 2008.
Our car came with a brand-new set of P235/50/ZR17 Hankook Ventus V4 ES all-season tires installed by the Jaguar dealership we purchased the car from last December. The tires carry a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty, are rated 420/A/A, and currently have just over 20,000 miles on them. I run them at 33 to 34 psi year-round and rotate them at every oil & filter change (6,000-mile intervals). I was very skeptical of the Hankook brand and used that as a bargaining chip to help drive down my offer price for the car. I didn't believe they would last this long and while I don't expect them to go the full 50,000-mile treadwear warranty distance, I won't be surprised if they reach at least 40,000 miles. My wife does a lot of highway driving so that certainly helps her vehicles achieve maximum mileage out of her tires. The key is to keep them pumped up and rotate them regularly. They've held their balance well, their ride remains excellent, they handle well in the rain and have never hydroplaned, and I must admit that I have been pleasantly surprised at how good these "cheap Korean tires" have been on our S-Type. When we purchased the car these tires were priced at about $115 each in our neck of the woods. I assume they are a little more than that now. Your best bet would be Discount Tire....

Jon, you finally are making it all the way down here (lol) next we'll be seeing you in the detailing section!!!! Ours came with 2 new Michelin Pilots up frt and 2 40%ers in the rear. 8,000 miles later they are in still the same shape as when purchased. So I guess when its time to replace the rears we'll stick with the Pilots.

Rick,
If you ever see me in the Detailing section, call the funny farm and have me straight-jacketed immediately. There is no freakin' way that I'm going to spend 12 hours using 27 different products to clean up a car that will be dirty again just ten miles down the road. Maybe back in 1975 when I was willing to waste all my free time spit-polishing my pride-and-joy Datsun 260Z, but certainly not these days....

I can't afford it, but I still use Michelin performance because they're good. Have been using them since they were a hundred dollars a piece, and now look at what they're fetching for (I forgot how much they cost, but they were expensive)! 25-years ago the Z rated ones cost but $150 and now ...
Pirelli used to be decent and were used in Mercedes, but still it's Michelin that I preferred.
BTW, like your motto "I know I ain't good for nuthin'...I can always serve as a bad example." lol, talking about looking at the bright side...
Happy motoring
