Default Why do they discontinue good tires?

I am still shopping for some new tires to put on the rear of my car, and after finding a very nifty function on tirerack.com that allows me to search for tires that have reviews of people with my car.

So far, all of the tires with really good reviews have been discontinued. Why do tire companies discontinue tires with good reviews? I'm a bit aggravated that I can't seem to find some decent tires for my car.

I suppose manufacturers must continue to develop even better models, improving what they consider to be important to customers and what keeps their tires competitve with other similar brands and 'type' of tire. If you were happy with a certain brand, at least start there, perhaps it was just replaced with a newer one, with a different name. I realize its risky w/o the dozens of reviews to judge it by, but if its a new, other 3rd party evaluations may have occurred, such as with motor trend and other car mags.

What was your favorite? Was it an odd size?

I suppose most of that is true, and some tire companies try to make their products better and cheaper to manufacture.

My favorite was Yokahama AVID 4 (or something like that). Every tire was the proper size (225 60 16). I'd go for any Yokahama again, but they didn't last at all.

Honestly, my issue seems to be a lack of tires that are currently for sale that have good ratings. Some have great wet/dry traction but are noisy. Others have good traction and are quiet, but run out of tread at under 20,000 miles. The reviews that I read from tires that have been discontinued don't seem to have most/any of these problems.

I had Yokahama tires that came stock on a new 88 Mitsubishi SPX 4X4.
I got 80,000 miles out of them and they quit making them.Best tire I ever owned.I almost wonder if it was to good??
