Question winter tires on 97 XK8

Hello all,

This is probably an uncommon inquiry. I would like to know if anyone has advice on Winter tires for a '97 XK8.

Our car is currently running on 245 50R17 michelin pilot sport a/s. We've been parking it in the winter for the past 5 years. This year we need a 2nd vehicle in the winter, and the drive one way will only be 5-10 km, so we decided to run the jag on winters this year.

Anyone have advice on which route to go?
Advice from tire shop was to swap winters onto same rims (17x8 Lamina) with 225 55R17.
Tirerack.com suggests a 16" tire (& obviously new rims) 225 60R16.

I would like to know if a 16" wheel would actually fit on my car?
From my searching it seems the 17x8 has a 33mm offset.
The 16x7 wheels recommended (tirerack) have a 20 mm offset, which seems right based on the change in width.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
David in Cananda
