Ok so i own a 2002 X-type 3.0 5 Speed and just recently changed the front 3 spark plugs and ignition coils and my enging is making a cluncking sound. I am going to change the back 3 spark plugs and Ignition coils sonn but just wanted to see if anyone knew what the proble could be. If anyone has any info on what this could be I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks

 

Mihvv, change the back 3 plugs and then see what you have. It is possible that you are getting a misfire on one of the back cylinders and that is what is causing all your problems.

Yea I'm in the process of changing the back 3. And yes I put the right ones in. Yes the noise was there before I changed the coils and plugs. This is the noise it makes.

Mihvv, I know this is going to sound silly, but is she putting in premium fuel into the car when she fills up? Some of our cars are touchy with the grade of gas that gets put into it. After that, listening to the sound, it almost sounds like the serpentine belt has a chunk that has come out of it and that is what is making the sound.

A trick that you can do is once you get the car in your hands, get yourself a 1/2" wood dowel (about 18" long) and place one end of the wood dowel against the block of the motor and the other end just behind your ear (on the boney part). Move the dowel around to different parts of the engine. You should notice that the sound will get louder and softer in different parts of the engine. Where ever the noise is the loudest, that is the general area where your noise is coming from.
