Default Metal pedal covers (manual)

Ahoy,

When I operate the clutch pedal, I keep my heel on the carpet to use it as a point of leverage, and when I let the pedal up, I let my foot slip on it to bring it up smoothly. However, in wet weather the soles are wet, and wet rubber-on-rubber action is both non-smooth and sounds horrible. What to do? I've tried not to let my heel touch the carpet, but it feels extremely clumsy and imprecise to use the clutch like that.

Alloy pedals would likely be more slippery...how would I be attaching them? Are they truly just screwed onto the rubber pads in the stock pedals or do they detach somehow?

As far as I remember you have to drill the pedals to attach the metal ones. But...disguay, me and some other members tried to find a set of metal covers for a stick shift - but nobody makes them

Arden does, and it's a mere 320€ for a set!

Now that I've been looking, it seems that our beloved car shares the pedals with the 2000-2007 Mondeo. The accelerator pedal looks like a carbon copy, and the rubber pads for clutch & brake pedals look identical. On one website, they even use the same photo for both.

If the dimensions are the same indeed, it would broaden the search to such Mondeo-suitable pedals. Typical aftermarket pedals are pretty garish though, and these are the ones for the MK3 Mondeo...

EDIT:
Rough measurements, but still. The accelerator pedal grooved part is about 105mm long and 40mm wide. The clutch/brake pedal pads are roughly 54mm wide at their widest point and 65mm tall. There should be enough space for a dead pedal 90x200mm in size.

Well, maybe it's a really good idea to search kits for the Mondeo.

I also took a look at Arden's website and found only this
And it says it's only for the 2.0 version

The pedals are apparently the same in all manual petrol X-Types. I don't think there were anything differentiating between 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 in the JEPC.

Of course, I'd still ask Arden before ordering. Just in case.

They changed the throttle pedal in 2004.

Oh, right. They new one apparently is all-plastic, while the old one like in my car is a metal stick with a plastic pad at the end. I wonder why the clutch is plastic and the brake is metal?

I'm talking to the person who has made these for an XK8, and he is willing to make a set for the manual X as well if I provide proper dimensions. Perhaps it'd be best to buy a used set of pedals from eBay and use them as reference, as the curvature in the pedals is difficult to measure and portray accurately.

I'll keep you updated.

What is the price to make a metal set? I guess there are some people on this forum who would like to buy one for themselves (including me obviously)

You can remove the rubber covers (as far as I remember they are replaceable) and get the dimensions or just hand them to the craftsman.

The one in the photo was on eBay for £35 starting bid, so it shouldn't be anything too outwordly.

I took off the rubber covers yesterday and took photos and measurements for the guy (in UK). I also took a photo of the side profile of the clutch pedal, with a straight piece of plastic under it for reference. The problem is that the rubber covers are likely not (even when new) as curved as the pedals, since because they are made of rubber, they can bend to accommodate it. I was thinking I'd either try to arrange a set of used X-Type pedals for him (£35 for clutch, brake and accelerator). Another idea is cutting a piece of cardboard to fit the side profile of the pedal, and then send it to give him a proper model for the curve.

Updates!

I got them from s.askew @eBay. I did take measurements of the pedals to the best of my ability, but to make sure everything fits properly he acquired a set of actual X-Type pedals. And they do; I just installed them a moment ago. As the included instructions state, drilling is an option but I used the included clamps instead to secure the clutch/brake pedal covers, and they seem to stay in place perfectly well.
I'll post some post-installation photos later as I didn't take the 7D to the car with me.

Here you can see the pedal covers and the measurements I took. The pedal measurements were not needed after all, but he made the footrest with the measurements I took (left side 150mm, right side 230mm, 90mm wide) and it fits like a glove; any bigger and it wouldn't fit. I asked him to make the pedal covers wider and taller than the pedals themselves so that they cover them up properly.

Do admire the Topre keyboard ;>

All in all, I'm very happy. Haven't driven the car yet, but I did play with the pedals a bit and they felt great under-foot.

Caution! It is my understanding that the X-Type accelerator pedal changed at some point? I have the old "metal L with a plastic pad" in my car and the pedal cover fits it perfectly. However, I think the later models had a full-plastic pedal? If you're interested and have the later style accelerator pedal, ask him about it.

Looks awesome! Thank you very much for the update.
I already sent him a message and waiting for a response. How much did it cost you?

The set was £55+shipping, but that doesn't include the footrest. I got it as an extra because I was the first X-Type customer You should ask for it though, I think.

While more expensive than I initially expected, I consider it a "once in a (car's) lifetime" thing. And she clocked in 70000km just yesterday, so it's a good birthday present ^^

Update2!

Sorry, pics are a bit dark because it's dark outside and flash doesn't play nice with polished metal surfaces. It's been raining all day long, thus sorry for the dirtiness.

EDIT:
Having driven the car quite a bit in the last few days; I'm loving them. They are staying in place solidly, look nice and are bigger than originals but still not too close to each other. And as I desired, far less squeaky noise than before!
