Default Volunteers - smartphone audio streaming device test

Member veffremov in California has developed a CD-changer replacement device that allows audio streaming from a smartphone (via bluetooth).

He is looking for one or two members with either an XJ8 (X350 or X358), X-Type or S-Type (2004 onwards) with D2B optical audio system who would like to test the device, share their experience and ultimately help him improve the product.

Full details in this thread:

Even if you can't help out, please check the thread and give him some feedback.

Graham

I have a 2003 X-type with the nav - same as yours - Only the Navigation DVD in the trunk and no CD changer but I think there was one before i bought it 8 years ago - Interested in AUX and/or Bluetooth. Please hit me up to trade information and possible testing.
Thanks.

Getting ready to expand the offering. Forum members would receive a special price of $299 + shipping (Continental US shipping should be less than $10, other places vary quite a bit).

Please fill this form if you would be interested in this offer:

I would offer full refund (less the shipping) if you are unhappy with the performance of the device for 90 days - just send the device pack to me.

One year repair warranty. If I'm unable to repair the device you will get a refund even if 90 days have passed. After one year, I would continue to support all customers, but that is on a best effort basis.

I have very limited production capacity, so from the registered users I would randomly select batches of 5 per week. You are not required to pay for the device until I have one ready for you to ship.

Production would start mid or end of June - depending on how I fare after my surgery.

Good luck with your device and surgery.
Smart to keep it low key so they don't start pouring out of China for $16.99

I wish it was possible to make it for $16.99 ;-). I don't believe the market is big enough for them to spent the resources to copy this. I'll be lucky if I make 100 of these.

What's D2B Optical System and are the requirements still the same?

I have an '06 with Premium sound, but no CD changer (at least that I've found) or Navi.

Requirements:
- you must have XJ8 (x350 or x358), X-Type of S-Type (2004+) with D2B optical audio system.
- you must have a CD-changer in the trunk, that you are not in love with.
- some experience with computers, so we can troubleshoot problems.
- you understand the product is still experimental and some kinks may be present.

There is no requirement for a CD changer, it's easier if you have one. What really is needed is the CD-changer power plug (which I believe all these cars have) and a new optical plug.

The optical plug can be added with if you have a spare optical harness (eBay usually less than $50). You take one of the plugs and add it to your existing harness.

Here is an excellent guide how to work the optical connectors:

And a little doc by me to illustrate the process:

I think we'we worked most of the kinks out, so hopefully there would be no troubleshooting required.
