Question Weird X type Starting Problem

Hello all,
I have been recently noticed that sometimes my X type won't start but it will crank for a second or two, cut out and then the dash will go dim and all the lights will fade out. If i turn the key again all of my settings, and the clock, gets reset and the gauges will do a reset like after taking out the battery. The good thing is that it will eventually start, after a few attempts, and behave perfectly but this problem has me a bit concerned. I replaced the battery about a month ago, and it is not particular to it being the first start of the day or not; I drove around town all day today, and when I got back from the store this happened. Any help would really be appreciated!

It sounds like one of the connections to your battery is bad. Or
possibly on of the battery cables is bad. That you had a new
battery installed just a short time ago seems to be the clue here.
If you don't know how to check it yourself you should take
it back to where you bought the battery and explain the problem.
Let them fix it.

Pete.

aCapiz, like jagger said, sounding like a bad battery cable. If you have access to a multimeter, I can walk you through proving a cable is bad. But, new cables are not that expensive and easy to install in the car. So, may be worthwhile just to replace both cables. You do not need to install jaguar specific cables. The generic cables will work just fine for this car.

sounds like you have a bad ground cable. Check the integrity of the battery ground and the power cables from one end to the other.

hey guys,
I went ahead and swapped out the battery cables today. My negative cable looked really chewed up and the insulation around it was all gone! The new cables were very inexpensive and pretty easy to replace . So far you all have been right and my kitty fires right up now. Thanks for your help everyone!

aCapiz, not a problem. That is why we are here. Keep this information handy in case you find a friend with the same problem, you can help them or help a fellow member here. Most of us have only figured this out by paying attention to the problems other people have had and remember what they did to fix their issues.
