Default Engine tempature warning red light is on

I have a 04 x-type 3.0s. When I opened the door of my car this morning the alarm sounded and As I drove the car the High tmepature warning was showing on the display with a red light. THe meter was on hot with red light also. No Steam, spray, change in the car at all. I have not checked anything yet. I will start with fluid check. Any ideas about what else it could be and how to fix it.

Overheating on an x type is a faulty fan control module 9 times out of 10

drock138, like disguay said, most of the overheat issues stem from a bad fan controller. I have to ask whether the car was overheating when out on the highway or did it start overheating after a period of in town driving?

If the car overheats on the highway, then you are looking at most likely a bad water pump, but can also be a bad thermostat. If the car only overheats in the city, then you are most likely looking at a bad fan controller.

If you want to prove the fan controller good, let me know. The check is really easy to do.
