Default 02 XTYPE starting problem

02 jag xtype starting problem

so, i thought my battery went out, and so i tested it and it was fine. alternator checked out when i was at autozone too. now when i try to start it, the gauges just fluter, doesnt turn over, and for a short while, i could get a jump start, & it will start.

is it possibly the starter has gone out?

How did you test battery?
If it was jump starting fine it is probably the battery. We have mnay xtypes that look ok but battery cures it.

i took the battery out and had it tested at autozone. i had them test it twice because i was certain that was the problem.

it doesnt always start with a jumpstart.

sometimes, ill jump start it, then drive it for a few days, then it wont start. this last time, it started fine, went to store, had to get a jump start, then came home, took battery out..tested it the two times in a row at autozone, and then reinstalled the battery..still didnt start, so i tried to jump it again, and the gauges just flutered like they do everytime it doesnt start.

so, you dont think it is the starter?

Would be extremely rare if it was the starter.
The gauges fluttering has nothing to do with starter.
When it doesnt start, does the red led by shifter stay illuminated?

I mean with ignition in position 2 does lght stay on or come on for a second and go out? What year car?

2002 jaguar X-type.

well, i charged the battery on 2amp until the green light on my charger at home came on, which was only ~30min. then took it to autozone to assure my-self it wasnt the battery, which tested good. so, i reinstalled it and put it in #2 ignition, didnt see a light on the j gate light up. then i tried to start it and, it still didnt start, nor any light near the j gate.

i did notice that there is a 1/2 inch crack on the neg terminal

i suppose the light might have came on for a second, but i didnt notice it both times.

the crack happens.. and the terminals gets all corroded.. causing a click. and no starts

thanks, do you know an acceptible battery other than jaguar.

i could not find one the way that jaguar set up there terminals.

cracked batterys very common on x type up here especially.. cause weird problems.. tcm faults , Hid faults and no starts lol

Yeah same here. We normall replace negative cable too. The new One is slightly longer and doesnt stress the negative terminal so much. Seems like every X at every service needs battery and int seals. $$$

Default Ok I think I'm convinced but......

I have this problem and you guys have just about convinced me to go and shell out for a new battery, just one doubt on my mind, when the problem occurs...dash flashing, no start, why can I start the engine by shorting the ignition relay? The Starter turns with ease and the battery appears full of beans.
