Default 03 X-Type Failure to Start--Jumped, Started--Engine Light On-Off 1 hour later?

Ok, we drove my 03 X-type to dinner Saturday evening, parked it at home, and all was just fine. This morning I went out to go to work and it wouldn't start. Hubby boosted it, and it started, but the engine light was on. I had to be at an appointment about 2 miles from home, so went on in it, attended apt, was there for about 45 minutes. Car started fine, engine light still on. Had another apt next door to that one, was there for about an hour. Came out, car started right up and the engine light was not on. Drove to work, about 23 miles, and haven't tried it again yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Oh, car has a little less than 57,000 miles on it, is an automatic 2.5

Smile Engine Light

I had this happen when my battery when dead last year, I was able to charge enough to get the car started and the engine light when on and stayed on. I drove over to a shop that had a exact replacement battery for my 03 and after it was installed and started the engine light was off. When I got home I got my code reader and checked to see what code was there. There was no code except the engine OK code. Have no idea why the engine lite came on and no idea why there was no fault code, but it hasn't come on since then and a lot of gremlins I had in the electrics went away.

i had the exact problem about 4months ago it turned out that the voltage in my battery was low. i think you need a need battery cos that was the solution to mine problem.
First get a multimeter and put on the battery, any reading below 12.5V means that your battery is gone. Mine cat is a 2.5L auto trans 03 model with a little over 57K on the clock so i think you and i are on the same page...lol.
I bet the check engine light will not come on again but you will need to replace the battery soon. The check engine light will appear the moment you replace the battery but this is what u should do, turn off the ignition with the bonnet still opened, remove the negative terminal from the battery, wait for 15seconds and replace it. Start the car and you are good to go with the check engine light off.
let me know if there is anything else
GOOD LUCK.
