ok i was doing some research. so the fog lights are actually up top located next to the headlights. park lamps are located in the bumper. is this the correct assumption?

Nope, wrong assumption. The low beams are called `dip beams`next to them in the headlight housing, closest to the grill, are the high beams. The fog lights are the ones in the bumper. The headlight switch controls the fog lights with a pull out on the switch. Note, the fog lights will only work when the dip beams are on, not when the high beams are on.

tennjack84, like mohrd says, the fog lights only work when the parking lights are on. So, you have to have the headlight switch in either the park or the head position. From there, you can pull out the headlight switch 1 click (there is a second click, more on that later). This will activate the foglights. These foglights will turn off when you turn on the high beams (british call the high beams the main beams, so, if you are looking at diagrams, keep this in mind). The normal headlights the british call "DIP beams".

I was mentioning the second click that you can pull the headlight switch out to. THis will activate the rear fog lights (yes, your car has them). If you look in the lower inside corners of the tail lights, there is a fog light there too. This is meant to help others see the back of your car in foggy conditions.

Because you are not talking about having issues with your high beams, I know the relay for the fog lights is installed. Also, the fuse for the fog lights is good (high beams would not work if the fuse was blown). So, this really only leaves 3 possibilities.

1) the fog lamps never got plugged back in following the repair work. Very possible if the shop was in a rush. So, I would see if the plug for each fog light is even connected.

2 and 3) you have a problem with relay R1. You can prove this by removing the headlight switch and turning the headlight switch to the "Park" or "HEAD" position and then finding Pin 15 on the back of the headlight switch (will be a green/white wire). Do you have 12 VDC there? If no, then you have a problem with relay R1 or the wiring between the fuse box and the headlight switch. If you do have 12 VDC on pin 15, then check to see that you have 12 VDC on pin 11 (also a green/white wire). If you have 12 VDC there, you have a wiring problem between the headlight switch and the fog lights or 2 blown bulbs for the fog lights. No 12 VDC, then you have a bad headlight switch.

Hope this helps you get things back in order for your car.

just to clarify.
take the headlight switch off automatic and turn it over to parklamps only. then pull the column switch for the highbeams back once for the front twice for the back fog lights. then switch the headlight back to on and as long as the the high beams arent on the fog lights should come on.
Thanks
