The latch on the center console in my 2002 X-Type is broken and I am curious if a console from a 2004 X-Type is a direct replacement? I would just replace the latch, but I found a console out of a 2004 X-Type for cheap that is the same color and has the extra cupholder. Would this work?

Easy as remove 2 screws

 

where are the 2 screws that hold the console in place?

 

No wrong track, dont have to remove ashtray, but you have to remove rubber mat in cubby box to access 3 torx screw, using something thin and stiff, no, not that,put that up! a small screw driver slid underneath the back of the wood shifter trim and carefully pop up without chipping the clear, grab the front of it now and pull up and off, remove the 6 torx underneath, maybe only the back 2 but the front 4 wont kill you if they dont have to come off. Now remove the 2 carpeted side panels by removing the 2 torx 1 each sideto the inside of both front seats, after that grab and pull they snap out, remove the torx that hold the rest of the console to its mounts and remove and toss. installation is the reverse of removal. When you built snap tight cars as a kid, it was toprepare to diassemble a new car.Some steps have been omitted due to lapse of memory and to give you a sense of pride in a job well done

Fancy the centre console witht the 2 cupholders from auction on ebay as mine doesnt have them.
Not long left and no bidders so hopefully will get a bargain.

i picked up my used console for $65 on ebay. its in great condition and matches perfectly. now i just gotta install it!

 

Brutal, you'd be making my day if you tell me a later model year console is definitely a direct bolt on replacement for the single cup holder one from an '02. Does it matter if it's auto or has stability control? My Mrs would be very happy to have her own cup holder instead of having to hold her coffee on her lap. Just kidding. Mama Bear ALWAYS gets the holder.

 

DOESNT MATTER IF IT HAS STAB. IT POPS OUT AND YOU PUT YOUR PATS LIGHT AND COIN HOLDER IN OR STAB WHATEVER YOU HAVE. THEY NEVER CHANGED THE WAY THEY MOUNT AND LOOK IDENTICAL IN SIZE AND SHAPE

Anyone know where I can get a replacement back piece for the center console? In every used x-type we test drove, and eventually in the one we purchased, that back piece on the console above the ash tray in the rear was broken off. I rather not purchase a whole console just for that piece, and the ones that still have it intact on ebay go for around $150. Thanks.

 

lol, i always ge told that, dude u drive a jag, but it dosne't even have enough cup holders, and i always say, u lzy *******, what are u going to be doing if your not holding your drink, picking your nose. lol its funny, but i just tell them to put it in one of the back holders.
